I think they have some meaning. They can do similar things, but they do things different ways.

You are right if you are saying right vs left, however. That's a different measurement. It's complex and kind of fun to think about when you strip back all the memes and look at the tenets of each party. That + the fact that both seem willing to sell their soul to just about anything to gain more power, it does become muddy, but even 'these republicans' and 'these democrats' have core philosophies.
