I think you need to do more research on the Vikings primo. They were known for showing up stealth in long boats in the middle of the night and just murdering, pillaging, and raping coastal towns all over the world. Yea I don't really know about that. I'm never going to discount Columbus's contributions to western globalization, ills that came with it aside for arguments sake.

But to say that Christopher Columbus "represents" every American in the same way that Big represents his neighborhood, where he literally grew up and knew people personally who took pride in him being from their hood, in Brooklyn is just a wild take. While being a founding piece in the domino effect that eventually (and somewhat indirectly) led to the United States, nothing really about his ideals and values embody what this country is about.

Just not the same thing at all. And I know it may seem like I'm being pedantic here but I feel like making an accurate analogy shows understanding, and that wasn't the case in this instance.

Statues of Columbus were erected mainly to celebrate his role as a symbol and to honor Italian-American heritage. His bravery led to the creation of the modern western world. Anyone who is alive and is grateful to live in this country owes some sort of gratitude to Christopher Columbus.

As someone who was actually born and raised in Brooklyn, I regret to inform you that not everyone listens to Biggie or listens to rap music. He is not some holy iconic figure who carries significant meaning to each and every brooklynite. He is simply a popular rapper and entertainer from Brooklyn. He is no more important of a figure than Jerry Seinfeld or anyone else. Rest assured the people of Brooklyn owe FAR more to Christopher Columbus than they do Notorious B.I.G.

It should also be noted that while Big was a great rapper, he was also a criminal and a crack dealer. So he wasn't some perfect person either. Yet I don't see anyone campaigning to remove his statues or his murals. Kind of odd if you ask me. Almost as if there's a radical double standard.

I think Columbus's claim to fame is that his discovery of the Caribbeans lead to new cartography that lead more Europeans there which ultimately resulted in settling in America eventually. How much 'credit' you want to give him is pretty speculative though, because he was given ships by Spain to find new spice trade routes to the Indies and thought he had landed there when he saw the natives. Yikes, imagine being literally the other side of the fvcking planet in terms of being off, talk about failing up.
