Michael Jordan is the highest-paid athlete of all time, earning a staggering $3.3 billion throughout his career, adjusted for inflation and mostly from off-court sources. But despite having a massive bank account, MJ once tried to save $40,000 cash instead of his daughter after their jet ski overturned in deep waters.
Well, at least that's according to his son Marcus, who detailed the entire incident during the Spilling Family Secrets episode of the Separation Anxiety podcast, which the younger Jordan co-hosts with girlfriend Larsa Pippen.
According to Marcus, during a trip to Bahamas, his father took his 14-year-old sister, Jasmine, on a jet ski ride, but for whatever reason, the jet ski capsized and threw them into the ocean. The incident left MJ, Jasmine, and what Marcus described as a 'big wad of cash in a rubber band' literally floating on the open waters. Per Marcus:
"My dad's in the water, my sister's floating a couple of feet away from him, and you see this wad of cash floating in the water. Who do you think my dad went for first? My dad literally went for the 40 grand first. My dad said, 'She got on a life vest, but I gotta go grab this cash.'"
Marcus also told Larsa that his dad doesn't know how to swim, but even without a life vest at that time, MJ was still determined to save his hard-earned money, even doing it first over ensuring Jasmine's safety.

Meanwhile lebron james dives in the open ocean to save Carmelo Anthony's life while risking his own life. Everyone knows that saving someone from drowning, they may panic and drown you trying to stay afloat.
and LeAquaman is a world class swimmer. Another thing he is better than Jordan at

I guess the stereotype is true black people cant swim. To be fair if you swam in their native land you get eaten by crocodile or mauled by hippo. Us gringos have enjoyed some oceans that didn't have as bad threats at least at the coast and if they did they got dealt with as predators. So we learned to swim.

How did he try to save anything at all and not panic instead?
Going on a jet ski into deep waters while unable to swim is crazy stuff.
There must have been others there..

Lol at the Bronie fluffers on here who have never gotten out of their mom's basement.
Anyone who's jet skied knows that flipping it having a wipe out is inevitable if you're pushing it at all. It's not a big deal.
And his daughter had a life vest on, so clearly she wasn't in any danger. MJ kept a cool head, realized his daughter didn't need attention, and decided to save the 40g cash. A very sound decision.
That ability to have high cognitive function under pressure is one of the many things that separates Jordan from Lebron. Lebron would have choked in that situation - both literally and figuratively.

The stereotype is definitely true, but I don't think it goes that far back, and it definitely doesn't have some sort of evolutionary aspect to it
Just a cultural thing. White people in this country have generally had more access to pools and beaches and so are more likely to teach their kids to swim when they're young.

How do white people have more access to beaches? That doesn't even make sense. Everybody can go there. Get in a car and drive like all of us. But you rarely see many black people at the beach and I'm from jersey shore. Especially swimming out in deep water. I dont think ive ever seen that. As far as pools go were not all in bathrobes at a mansion with in ground pool. I went to the YMCA to swim. Anybody can do that. Europeans in general have sailed the seas both by boat and body way more than any other major demographic.

The city, my mom grew up in in the south and the one I moved to in the early 90s? When the civil rights act passed and they had to integrate the city pools? The city turned them into sea lion enclosures, rather than let Black people use them.
Anyway….. Yes, it’s pretty common to flip over a jet ski and I’d imagine somebody like Mike who has had tropical vacation money for 40 years would know that. That’s why they make you wear a vest. You could flip over even if you aren’t showing your ass because it’s too windy. They wouldn’t let me and my friend go out last time I was in the keys because of the wind. There had been too many accidents that day.
