Prop 50 passes
I want to make it clear that I believe gerrymandering spits in the face of democracy. It needs to be outlawed. So how and when will we eventually get to a place where gerrymandering is illegal?
No use pointing fingers as to who's fault it is. Cali has done it in response to Texas, who did it in response to other states. But the first state to ever do it was Massachusetts in 1812 to rig the election for the "Democratic-Republican" party, by Governor Elbridge "Gerry" hence the name. It has slowly snowballed from there.

Gerrymandering isn't going away any time soon. I think the days of having an honest independent body to determine such things is over because even though the leaders of some states will still try to stand for such things so long as there v are other states doing it the opposing party doesn't retaliate they're at a disadvantage and you can't trust that if it's made a federal decision that the President in charge won't have it tilted in their favor. So rather than some kind of one-off, yesterday signaled the march towards what will one day be universal gerrymandering. You can't stop fighting if the bully is going to hit you whether you defend yourself or not.
But what could at least cause chaos and backfiring is if/when we see some kind of strong movement that gets people to rethink their party affiliations. It would still happen but it could at least be made unrewarding.

Re: Prop 50 passes
Prop 50 only applies for 5yrs then reverts. It was in direct response to Texas, tit-for-tat. It could have been avoided if Texas hadn't forcefully passed theirs through.
Republicans know that if they attempt to do the same in another state, Democrats will respond equally. Gerrymandering on large scale is worthless at this point if Trump decides to push it again before the oncoming blue wave in the midterms. They will lose the house and likely the Senate if yesterday is indicative.

In 5 years, assuming California has a Democrat governor when Texas and other states are still doing this you think they will just let it slide and give back that potential 5 rep gain?

That's a valid point. I don't know if in 5yrs, the state would have to do another vote to continue it. I don't know the exact wording in the prop

What has happened in North Carolina should be criminal...this is a state which has been busted basically every time they've redrawn the maps for Jim Crowe shit. Blue States have to fight against this crap

So eventually we get to a point where every state in the country has redistricted to where none of our votes matter. Do we then wake up and completely outlaw it?
This is literally rigging elections. No one should be cool with this from either side.
We should force districts to be determined by county or city borders.

Re: Prop 50 passes
The way the electorate shifted last Tuesday, the GOP can do all the gerrymandering they want to do, they're gonna get wiped out in '26 regardless. The American people are done with Trump's horrific handling of his presidency. I knew he would be disastrous, I just didn't fathom how horrible and how quickly he would be so. He's an even bigger idiot than I thought he was.
That pendulum swing gon' be wild. We got but a smidge taste of it...
