Kidd and Kenyon were their only standout defenders. Jason Collins a big gay black softie and Todd maccoulogh weren't exactly locking anything down. Neither was Kerry Kittles skinny ass. They made that defense.

Kidd was one of the best technical and intelligent passers at PG ever dude. Are you serious? His only weakness was shooting off the dribble. Which he was forced to do a lot because there was no other option. Nobody else on those NJ teams could create their own shot until they got Vince Carter. Stockton averaged like 12 ppg and wouldn't be able to handle that role offensively efficiently either. And no 30 ppg Malone to throw it to. No offense but he'd have no chance.

And on the flipside we saw when Kidd got traded to Dallas where he did have a Karl Malone level offensive option what did Jason do? Did he shot jack? Not even close. He led them in assists and played a passive role shooting the 3 very well catch and shoot. Jason Kidd retired like top 5 in 3s made. He could shoot. Just not great off the dribble. But Stockton scored less than him any way so its incredulous to assume John would be some dynamo scorer on the Nets and elevate Martin to Malone status.

Leading the top defense every year and making the Finals is the way to do things. They went from 23rd rank to 1st immediately. John wouldn't have done much better than 40% but with way worse defense and rebounding. Again it surprises me you dont value Kidds defense and rebounding given your vibe.
