Hawks exercise options on Smith, Childress, Williams
The Atlanta Hawks have exercised the contract options for the 2007-08 season on the trio of Josh Smith, Josh Childress and Marvin Williams, it was announced today by Executive Vice President/General Manager Billy Knight.
Now the question is do the Hawks extend Chill and Smoove contract after this upcoming season? I hope they do. Just to see if they can get them on cheap contracts compare to what they could earn on the open market. It is good thing we have cap room. We can still match high offers for them.
BK value Chill too much to just give him up. Another team will have to give up 1st(with value aka non late 1st round) or a very talented Big. Chill is too important of a player off the bench and could be consider a leader by now. He provide depth behind JJ at SG and Marvin at SF. He can play PG position at times. He is probably the Hawks best defender behind JJ. His value to the team is very high.
As expected... We could all see how Hawks managed their off-season, strenghtening their roster while preserving cap space flexibility for the future. It means that Hawks feel very strong about Smoove, Chill and Marvin and certainly plan to sign at least 2 of them long-term.
I hope we can keep all 3. Chill I think we can re-sign rather cheap. Some where around $30-35 Million. It is Marvin and Smith who will likely want more money. With the capspace we have. It shouldn't be a problem.
