Default Vipers Break League Record for GATORADE Call-Ups as Temple Joins Sacramento

March 3, 2010

MCALLEN, TEXAS - The NBA Development League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that guard Garrett Temple (6-5, 180, LSU) is the ninth GATORADE Call-Up in franchise history, and the Vipers’ league-record breaking seventh this season, after signing a 10-day contract with the Sacramento Kings.

“This is an impressive record and a big moment for our franchise. It really speaks to the success of the single-affiliation agreement we have with the Houston Rockets as we have given our fans the opportunity to see the future of the NBA everyday. We are certainly thankful for the contributions of all of our GATORADE Call-Ups in helping to create a winning atmosphere and get the Vipers to the top of the Western Conference. We wish Garrett and all of his fellow Vipers alumni all of the luck in the world,” Vipers President Brian Michael Cooper said.

Temple completed his second 10-day contract with the Rockets yesterday after receiving his first GATORADE Call-Up, In nine games with the Rockets, the rookie averaged 5.0 points and 1.6 rebounds in 13.1 minutes. Temple scored 11 points twice, on February 17 in a win at Milwaukee and on February 27 in a loss at Utah. He hit 13-of-29 shots (44.8%).

Temple is expected to be in uniform tonight when the Kings visit the Rockets at 7:30 p.m. at Toyota Center. Vipers fans are invited to Jackson’s All-American Sports Grill (corner of N. 10th and Dove in McAllen) to watch the game as five former-Vipers (Temple and Joey Dorsey with the Kings, Aaron Brooks, Will Conroy, and Jermaine Taylor with the Rockets) will be in action in both high definition and on the big screens.

An All-NBA Development League Showcase honorable mention selection, Temple averaged 14.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.4 steals in 34.9 minutes over the course of 30 games and starts for the Vipers. He shot 42.7% from the field, 37.2% from behind the arc and 80.4% from the free throw line.

Temple becomes the eleventh Vipers alumnus in the NBA at this point, joining Conroy (Rockets), Mike Harris (Washington Wizards), Taylor (Rockets), Antonio Anderson (Oklahoma City Thunder), Jawad Williams (Cleveland Cavaliers), C.J. Watson (Golden State Warriors), Brooks (Rockets), Shannon Brown (Los Angeles Lakers), Dorsey (Kings) and Steve Novak (Los Angeles Clippers).
