Default Titans Waive Stafon Johnson

Quote:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans waived injured rookie running back Stafon Johnson, the former Southern California standout whose college career was ended by a weightlifting accident that crushed his neck.

As soon as he clears waivers, coach Jeff Fisher said they will put him on injured reserve to keep him around the training facilities during his recovery.

Kuharsky: What Now For Johnson?
There was no way the Titans could hold a roster spot open for Stafon Johnson with the rookie expected to miss eight to 12 weeks, making Tuesday's move the only option, Paul Kuharsky writes. Blog

Johnson dislocated his right ankle and broke his fibula Saturday night in the Titans' 20-18 loss at Seattle. Before Tuesday's move, Fisher had said Johnson would be out up to 12 weeks recovering from what he called "major reconstructive surgery."

I'm pulling for him. He's been through so much over the last year or so.

He seems to have the heart and will power that Cadillac Williams shows. No one thought Caddy would ever play worth a flip after blowing out his knee the first time, then he came back and was having a great month before blowing out his OTHER knee. Then no one expected him to even try to continue playing football, but he came back yet again and had a solid year last year and will most likely have a better year this year, barring injury.

Johnson seems to have the same drive. I hope he has a quick and successful covery and is contributing on a team asap.

He cleared waivers so they put him on IR so he didn't take up a roster spot.

He's an inspiring guy. Im sure seeing him push through his recovery will be a constant motivator for other guys on the team to bust their ass.

Like zac said, its just for him to clear waivers and go on IR, not like they're outright cutting him. Saints did the same thing to Lynell Hamilton a few days ago. Waivers to IR.
