Tiago Splitter into the mix
The San Antonio Express-News reports: It remains to be seen if Splitter is ready for the “franchise savior” mantle fans have been waiting three years to drape around his broad Brazilian shoulders. It isn't even certain yet that Splitter will start. Ten years into his pro career, he is still a work in progress. Splitter's offensive game, limited mostly to finishing pick-and-rolls and putbacks, reminds many Spurs staffers of Fabricio Oberto. Given a choice to win a game, one coach said he'd take an outside shot from DeJuan Blair over a jumper from Splitter. Splitter isn't going to average 20 points. His numbers from Spain — 15.4 points and 7.1 rebounds — are probably his ceiling. In the NBA, Splitter will be cast as a supporting actor, not the lead.
