Default #1 Team Need - Long, athletic, shotblocker, at the 4

In my mind, the Wolves really need a change of pace on their front line.

Love, Darko, and Pekovic, are all skilled big men who have value in the league, but all together they're missing the long, athletic, PF that is vital to compete with many of the teams in the NBA.

They really missed out when Anthony Randolph was supposedly available during the offseason, and there were even rumors about him landing in the Twin Cities.

Any other ideas of who could possibly that player for the Wolves down the line??

J.J. Hickson??? Jason Thompson?? Mareese Speights???

Maybe make a move for Ed Davis from Toronto?? If he fills out and ups his aggression he could be a difference maker.

Any athletic shot blocking big would have been nice. Hassan Whiteside would have been good or Randolph or Larry Sanders from the Bucks.

Definitely not Whiteside or Sanders until we see what they can do in the NBA.

Especially not Whiteside; I guess he can block shots but thats about it, and there are questions about his attitude, motivation, and general grasp on the game of basketball. I'd rather not give up assets for a question mark.

I'm talking about a reasonably-established presence that has proved at the pro level that he can be productive on the court and off.

Nah. We need a solid #2 guard. If Corey Brewer could improve his jumper and perimeter game. That is what we need. But we need at least three other pieces; legit center, key 6th man (Which I think we may have one in Webster), and PG.

Nah??

The Wolves have two young, solid, swingmen that have room for improvement in Webster and Brewer. They're both still under 24 and have the potential to continue their growth as players.

Between Brewer, Webster, and Johnson, they have a solid foundation on the wings, with one of them being a 6th man.

They have two "legit centers" that complement eachother well in Darko and Pekovic.... not necessarily a franchise-cornerstone type player, but there are only a few of those in the NBA to begin with.

I must reiterate that the most important piece for the Wolves to take the next step is a long, athletic, shot blocker at the four that can run the floor and defend the new generation of PFs. As much as I enjoy Love's game, he's just not going to cut it as a 36-minute per game player next the centers we have.

Sure the Wolves could upgrade on their young, athletic, outside-shooting, defense-playing, trio of Johnson, Webster, and Brewer. If they could upgrade to a better, albeit still young and priced right, player on the wing they absolutely should do it.

But, for a young rebuilding team, they need to fill out their team the right way and keep good balance on the roster. Adding another slightly better SG to the already crowed wing situation would be simply irresponsible and lateral at best.

Nah. I still gotta disagree on the shot blocking, long, and athletic #4.

We need a solid center as in we need a guy who can rebound, defend and get tip ins. Rebounding is the big deal with Darko and company. The Lakers were getting offensive rebounds like there was no tomorrow in the preseason game they had. Plus, Darko has always been a weak rebounder...so we just hope he improves or Love gets all the boards. Rebounding as a team is going to win us a lot of games if it happens. That means you; Brewer, Johnson, Webster, Telfair, Ridnour, Flynn, etc.
