Denver Nuggets draft Kenneth Faried in 2011 NBA Draft
The Denver Nuggets selected forward Kenneth Faried, a senior from Morehead State, with the 22nd pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.
Faried was a Third-team All-America selection by the Associated Press last season. He also became the NCAA modern-era (post-1973) career rebounding leader with a total of 1,673 boards. The 6-8 forward played in all 35 games for Morehead State last season, averaging 17.3 points and a NCAA Division I-leading 14.5 rebounds. He also averaged 2.3 blocks and 1.9 steals per contest, while shooting 62.3% (233-374 FG) from the field.
During his senior campaign, Faried led the Eagles to the NCAA Tournament where he posted 12 points and 17 rebounds in a first-round upset over the fourth-seeded Louisville Cardinals at the Pepsi Center. He scored 20-or-more points 16 times during the 2010-11 season, recorded 10-or-more rebounds in 31 games (20-plus rebounds six times) and posted a nation-best 29 double-doubles (three 20-point/20-rebound games).
A native of Newark, N.J., Faried was named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year as a junior and senior and OVC Defensive Player of the Year in each of his last three seasons. He appeared in a total of 136 games over four years at Morehead State, averaging 14.8 points, 12.3 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 1.7 steals per game.
