Default Re: ESPN 5-on-5: Kobe Bryant vs Tim Duncan

Has Kobe ever had a playoff run like Duncan in '03? He carried Admiral when he was on his last leg, rookie Manu, inconsistent Parker, and bunch of 3 point shooters. For christ sakes....Pop benched Parker several times for Speedy.

Anyways...Kobe is slightly better.

No. But to be fair, Duncan had an amazing defense. Teams that played vs the Spurs in the 03 Playoffs averaged 89.3 ppg on .404% shooting! That is insane defense. Now Duncan was part of the reason why they were so good defensively, but when teams can't score on you, you don't need to do much on offense to win.

This is an interesting list.

You consider Dwyane Wade to be better than, just for example, Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Rick Barry, Sam Jones, Hondo, Larry Bird, Julius Erving, Charles Barkley?

I would expect to find 10 or 15 years from now he'll rank with DJ, Tiny Archibald, Calvin Murphy and those kinds of guys. Clyde the Glide level.

Duncan wasn't just part of the reason, he was the biggest reason. Duncan, at his peak, was one of the best defensive anchors of all-time; and in 2003 Duncan was at his peak.

Hmmm
Larry Bird didn't win b2b titles.
Kareem got his b2b titles when he was 40, way more after his prime. When he got to the Finals in b2b for the first time, he was 35.

Duncan and the Spurs won 3 of 5 from 2002-03 to 2006-07, which was pretty damn impressive.

Kobe is the only top 10 ever which didn't win MVP and FMVP in the same season. How about this?

honestly, kobe is probably more skilled and due to more rings and hype he is higher on a lot of peoples GOAT lists, but Im taking duncan to start a dynasty. just like id take hakeem, wilt, shaq and kareem over mj, even though mj is my number 1 all time. basketball is an inside out game, and big men are always the most important people on the court. the game starts and ends with them

I've never seen Magic Johnson play, except for his brief comeback which did not impress me much.
