Wait wait wait wait wait... You like the movie and that makes you glad you never read the book? Shouldn't it inspire to read the book if you liked the movie?

I wouldn't watch this movie with someone elses eyes. It just looks like a modern movie that they tried to CGI and manipulate into the 20s, rather than a real period piece... Plus the book was great and I don't Leo in my face ruining it.

Seriously? That's the soundtrack for Great Gatsby?

So much for the movie taking place in the roaring twenties.. At least use music from 20's/30's/40's to somewhat capture the true essence of the era in question..

It's a Baz Luhrmann film, so it's a quasi-modernized spin on a classic tale. Same thing he did with Romeo+Juliet.

A good rule of thumb for me is to not watch anything Baz Luhrman has anything to do with.

I understand that, but doesn't the movie itself still take place in 20's? I would completely understand it if they had modernized it so that the story would still be the same but take place in 2000's. Then I would not criticize the music soundtrack at all.

Unfortunately, it isn't the case..

P.S. I consider myself a fan of Jay-Z, Beyonce, Gotye, Sia, etc so it has nothing to do with hating the singers. Jay-Z has had some awesome songs over his career, Gotye is great too.

Quasi-modern. It's not in the 2000's, but the way it's shot and some of the action scenes give it a bit of a "modern" feel to some extent.

There is some music of the time in there mixed in with the hip hop, and even critics who didn't like the film say the music works well.

Call me illiterate, uncultured, narrow minded but the Great Gatsby is the lamest book I've ever read.

Tell me more about this symbolism that you absolutely cannot prove to me is correct.

The movie didn't look very good when I saw the trailer...

but trailers have been very deceptive lately... Iron Man 3 trailer looked awesome and that movie was terrible (even my 11 year old son was disappointed)

but all I'm saying is... I'm glad the book didn't spoil the movie for me,...

and now I'm very interested in reading it.

One of my favorite books.

Judging by trailers and interviews it looks like Baz has ruined it. Such a shame.
