I really wish the Jays hadn't signed Izturis. The roster crunch coming up with all the players returning from injury is going to lead to some tough roster moves.

Yeah, Kawasaki, even he has done tangibly and intangibly well lately, probably has to be the one to go down to AAA again when Reyes is ready to come back. Still, Gibbons may find the way to fit everybody in somehow without hurting their great form.

I didn't mind the move at the time, and he's starting to come around to his career averages. I just didn't know how he was defensively, but in the beginning was terribly bad. Sending down Kawasaki is the logical move. He provides depth at shortstop but you won't be missing him when Reyes is up...

as I typed this, he JUST missed a homerun...

That's 10 in a row for the hottest team in baseball.

1 more win ties a franchise record.

F**k me, the Braves are awful right now. Down 2-0 in the 6th and probably going to lose...again. Wasn't too long ago we had the 2nd best record in baseball and were just a couple games behind the Cardinals. Now we've got the 4th best record in the NL and I think the 6th or 7th best record overall.

Swept by the Padres lost 4 straight (swept by the Padres and dropped one to the Giants), won 3 in a row, and on the verge of losing 5 of our last 6. Guess that's not terrible, and most teams go through stretches like that in a 162 game season, but it's basically been really high highs, and fairly low lows with this team this year. Started off 12-1, went 10-17, then a stretch of something like 18-4, and now a 6-11 stretch. Almost no middle-ground of 15-20 game stretches where we play about .500 ball.

The Astros signed #1 Overall Pick Mark Appel for a 6.35 Million Dollar bonus this week.

Going back to Stanford paid off for him, as he got way more than what the Pirates offered him last year (3.8 Million) but he signed for way less than the recommended 7.79 Million Dollar slot for the first pick. I don't know if I've ever seen a Scott Boras client sign for way less than slot before.

I love seeing 40,000+ people come out for weekend games. Even mid-week vs the Rockies they were getting a solid 25,000.

Plan the parade baby!

On a more serious note, Marlins definitely have some good young talent. There have been many Stanton rumors, but if they don't trade him, Marlins can actually have a really good outfield going into 2014. Stanton, Ozuna and Christian Yelich. I am quite big on Yelich. He has hit at every level, and starting the season out blazing. He has hit a wall last 18 games or so, but there's no doubt he will hit at the big league level.

Also, I'm surprised how good Jose Fernandez has been this year. I really thought the Marlins did themselves a huge disfavour calling up a guy from High-A to start in the majors. But to his credit, he has looked really good. He is dominating teams he's supposed to dominate and holding his own against good teams. Took a hard luck lost last time out against the D'Backs. Another starter that has looked good is Jacob Turner. I do worry about the lack of Ks from him but if he continues to get groundball at an elite level, 7k/9 will be ok for him...

Man, baseball needs replay so badly. The Red Sox lost today because of a missed call that easily could've been reversed if only for replay. Nava caught the ball and then went to throw it back in and dropped the ball, but he clearly made the catch, he dropped it on the transfer to throw it back into the infield. the Umps said he dropped the ball and didn't make the catch and it cost the red sox the game.

There are a lot of interesting questions about the Marlins future. There's Stanton, whose stock has taken a hit because of injuries, and the outfield talent in the minors. Marisnick's stock is rising with one scout saying that he can see him as a future All-Star, Ozuna is coming down to Earth but has shown he can play a bit in the majors and of course there's Yelich who should be called up at some point this year. Even though he's been slumping lately its clear that he's at least as major league ready as Ozuna.

I didn't like the call up of Fernandez initially, but it was a desperation move. Eovaldi and Alvarez were hurt and they needed something to generate some buzz, but so far it has paid off. We'll see how they control his development from here but things are certainly starting off promising. The lack of K's from Turner is kind of puzzling for a guy that averages 92-93 on his fastball and can get as high as 95. His control needs to improve a bit more, but so far he's making it work.

The team could have a pretty promising future, but its pretty much up to how the decision makers in the front office and what they view their long terms plans as. From recent history I can't say I have much faith in that
