Default Players today are WAY overpaid

I am sickened by the size of contract given out today to a player who frankly isn't even top 10. Some players who aren't even very good are getting 9 figure contracts which is just outrageous while small businessmen and soldiers, the ones who made this country great, are struggling to get by on what they make.

It shows just an upside down value system that we are willing to tolerate this crap. There should be a cap of 1,000,000 per year which is plenty for entertainers and should be enough to survive your whole life even if you retire after 3 years. If you want more, study hard and become a successful business person so you actually create jobs for others etc. etc. Also tickets would be MUCH less expensive basically most of the ticket goes to paying these divas. Fans should boycott until players start downsizing their enormous demands and egos

If you think the players are making too much, look at who signs their paychecks.

Money flows into professional sports and like all of the entertainment business, and let's face it, it is show business, salary is determined by star value and what the market will bear.

That's not how a free market works, sorry. Players are paid precisely at the point where the limited supply of elite athletes intersects the demand for their talent as entertainers.

well the market doesn't get to choose the price so it is not really market choosing the price.

Look at NBA they are one league and a basketball monopoly in which the NBA players union collude to pay enormous salary caps and the owners of ecah team have colluded to sell merchandise for 10x what it should cost sometimes so they can transfer the cost of the players to the fans who have no say in the matter. The NBA is a monopoly and it is hard to break up because noone eles is going to be able to give mediocre players $100,000,000+ contracts

They make good money, but they retire at the age of 40. Unless you are a star in the league, it'll be hard to get another job after you leave the league. (I guess you can put your pride aside and work at McDonalds?)

So you have an agenda in that you don't like Chris Paul.

I don't like any number of celebrities or entertainers. But I understand that if they can sell tickets and put meat in the seats; if other employers within the marketplace value their services; if advertisers crave their endorsement abilities; if they enhance the value of the product as a whole; they deserve to make as much money as they can possibly command, or they should move on to someone else willing to pay them that.

And your notion that $3 million dollars is enough to "survive your whole life" is the same misguided thinking that leads many athletes, entertainers, lottery winners etc to end up broke.

So you're saying arguably the best PG in the league is not very good?

So Mcgee gets 10 million. Annoying. Lets see the options...

Give it to him for helping generate 3 billion dollars through tv deals, tickets, consessions and all that....

or

Limit his pay to 1 million or less passing the extra 9 or so million on to his owner. A guy who owns the Nuggets, St. Louis Rams, Arsenal if you are into soccer, and an NHL team and whos wife is the daughter of Sam Walton.

Dudes WIFE is a Walmart heiress.

They have like 10 billion dollars.

So.

You feel better about giving him more money than giving it to Mcgee?

Someone rich is getting the money. Period. Unless youre prepared to destroy the economy and take over america by making company profits go to an account you then give to those you choose...you dont have any other choices.

Rich guys gets it.....or the really realy really reeeeeeeally rich guy gets it.
