The parents of Coy Mathis brought a discrimination case with the help of a transgender rights group after she was told she had to use the teachers’ toilets or the ones in the nurse’s office.
They feared she would be stigmatised and bullied and removed her from the Eagleside Elementary school in suburban Colorado Springs.
Now the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies ruled the school district administration ignored Coy’s gender identity and created an environment ‘rife with harassment’.
What a joke. The school created that environment? They actually did try to accommodate the kid in a reasonable way by offering the teacher's bathrooms. Seems like people have to walk on eggshells these days with anything that pertains to transsexuals or transvestites.
The kid's parents are really only making things worse. Causing a big stir like this certainly won't help, in fact, it will only make the kid a bigger target. So this doesn't exactly help their fears of their kid being bullied, which will happen regardless. If this kid continues with this, which bathroom to use will be the least of their worries, particularly in junior high and high school. If the kid was complaining about getting bullied and the school turned a blind eye to it, then I could understand a lawsuit, but over this?
In general, having your 6 year old in the news over something so controversial is just bad parenting, imo.
