Default Re: my thoughts on the cavs

My 2013-2014 season in review thoughts:

I think Chris Grant was a fine GM and as Brian Windhorst put it, "he did everything right, it just didn't work out for him" Grant executed good trades, and he did a good job with his talent evaluation. I don't think firing Grant was necessary to get the rise out of the players, but I won't deny that that happened. All the nonsense about GM's not wanting to deal with him is bush league Sam-Amico reporting. Grant made moves all the time. And again as BW pointed out there are plenty of successful GM's in the league who are extremely tough to deal with. You want a tough negotiating GM.

*I think the biggest issue with the cavs and the main problem is the complete lack of leadership from Kyrie Irving. He's pouty, immature, and makes questionable decisions on the floor. It rubs off on the other teammates and his pouting IMO was a big factor to the cavs underachievement this season. He started to turn it around and "get it" so to speak after the AS break. He's a great talent and the cavs should try and retain him, but they need to do what's ultimately best for the franchise and if they feel his heart isn't into this then they should part ways.

David Griffin says the right things, but most GMs do. His claim to fame seems to be Goran Dragic and working for the suns during that exciting period for them, but whatever. They didn't win anything, they lost Amare for nothing, and that's it. He seems like he will do a good job as he's allegedly garnered interest from other franchises. I think the cavs should stick with him because he seems to be on the same page with Gilbert and seemingly wants to stay the course, which IMO is what the cavs need to continually do.

Mike Brown is a good coach who always finds himself in demand. I know it's the cool thing to say how much he sucks and everything but for all things he considered he did a good job this year. Cleveland fans in general need to get over this "fire the coach" mentality for all their pro sports. We cannot have the Cavs turn into the Browns. We cannot have the cavs try and rebuild every two years. Brown should not be dumped after this season. People wanna gripe about the offense, but they should just watch the games. If the offense is flowing for 3 quarters and then stops in the 4th its not an X's and O's problem, it's a personnel problem, specifically our guards trying to do too much. Mike Brown isn't telling Kyrie Irving, Jarret, and Dion to over dribble the ball and not move it around. Cavs looked like they were starting to buy in in the second half of the season. A lot of our young players improved; Zeller, TT, Dion, Delly, and even AB. People wanna rag on him for not playing Karasev enough? Whatever. Not grounds to fire a guy after one season IMO.

TLDR: Keep Brown and Griffin, trade Kyrie if its clear cut he doesn't wanna be here anymore, Chris Grant wasn't terrible.

this is a good review, im biased against brown, didn't like him the first time around but he did what they wanted improved the defense. not a little but alot so i won't mind seeing him back i guess. gotta wonder what this team would have looked like with Scott coaching another year tho. grant if anything put us in a great position going forward and was a master when it came to trades but he did sign bynum, jack and clark. all of which hurt this team, kyrie is a interesting player the kid just turned the legal drinking age and i think he liked to party this year to much. all we can do is watch him sign the max and hope he grows up or dion takes over as the leader of this team and puts kyrie in line. should be better next year.

You made valid points. Cleveland is my 2nd favorite team in the East because I liked their offseason moves plus I felt, Brown needed another chance esp after the unfair treatment he got in LA from both fans and MGT.
But I must say, I was both dismayed and shocked esp before ASB.
I still don't believe that Brown is a bad coach but I don't think he is great in handling players esp stars. I think aside from missing Lebron, I strongly believe he badly missed his assistant Mike Malone currently the head coach of the Kings.
Moving on now that they fired Brown, I think the best coach available out there is George Karl. He has the best track record!
His last losing season was waaay back in 1988. That's 20+ years of different lineups with or without Payton, Allen, Carmelo etc.
He did pretty well in handing huge egos like the allstars I mentioned, plus other difficult guys like JR Smith, also did well nurturing young players including Carmelo, Ty Lawson, Faried, Afflalo etc.
Actually my first choice overall is Jeff Van Gundy, but I don't think he is interested at all in going back to that pressure of winning, getting stressed out so much etc.
I like the lineup, sure hope they'll resign Deng for a reasonable price or get a couple of hardworking role players. Guys like Wesley Johnson, Jodie Meeks etc.

i figure instead of starting a new thread i would just use this one again for thoughts on cavs games this year. the main forum is almost pointless for any cavs threads already so it will only get worse when the season starts. cant wait to see blatts offense and his weird zone to man defense

thoughts about the heat game, the offense looks better than it should at this point, dion has been playing dam good defense this pre season, kevin love put up 25 and i barely noticed him in the game. that is a good thing.

Why have bulls fans become completely obsessed with this cavs team? You even have them posting articles in the team section now

Thoughts from the overhyped bulls cavs practice. Cavs offense > bulls defense. And by the end of the regular season it will be blatt>thibbs.

Was a good time at the q tonight for the most part other than bran didn't show up. Ish should be fun this week. Blatts rotations suck, he needs to fix that.

The main forum is now completely unreadable, not that we didn't know it was going to happen. Bran should of just stayed in Miami the way he's playing, this team looks strangely simular to last season with worse rotations. Wait is it even possible to have worse rotations than Mike Brown? Blatt doing his best to prove yes.
