NASCAR ratings are going down and fast

"Final TV ratings for Sunday's Nextel Cup race at California Speedway were down nine percent off the same race in 2006, giving NASCAR a slow start to the 2007 season.

The race received a 6.7 final rating, down from a 7.4 in 2006, according to Nielsen Media Research. The Busch Series race on ESPN2 received a 2.1 national rating, matching the 2006 race which was shown on FX.

The season-opening Daytona 500 drew a 7.0 percent rating on Fox, down three percent from last year's 7.2."

Is it just the boring racing or something deeper? Did alot of the folks who said they would stop watching if Toyota came in actually stop watching? Did adding Toyota take away one of their draws - good 'ol American only racing? "


Also, the ratings for the first 7 races are down 11% from last year.

-People are tired of Pablo Montoya being praised every week just because he is a non white driver.

-It's contrived.

-Some bandwagon fans have finally got tired of the same old song and dance.

-It's presentation and broadcasters are cheesy

-It's extremely a black affair now.

I done predicted it's decline. but I admit, it's happening faster than I expected.

They claimed they're not worried... But if they were not worried they wouldn't be changing the rules every other day to try and find the solution.

The guys in the black suits surely are worried.

They'll probably load on more celebs and stuff thinking it's going to make a big difference.

exactly. it was a fad (the expansion anyways) and its not really a sport. Sure its dangerous, but when the best part of the race is a crash. weak, it'll never become a major sport except among rednecks
