Default Michael Jordan praises LeBron on latest career milestone

Jordan says next step for LeBron is consistency

CHICAGO -- His Airness is paying tribute to the kid called King James.

Michael Jordan praised 22-year-old LeBron James for leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to victory over the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference finals. The Cavaliers advanced to the finals for the first time in their 37-year history.

What just transpired was something I felt was needed for the league, was needed for Cleveland, was needed for LeBron.

"What just transpired was something I felt was needed for the league, was needed for Cleveland, was needed for LeBron," Jordan said in Monday editions of the Chicago Tribune.

James dominated Game 5 against Detroit, scoring Cleveland's final 25 points in the win. The Cavaliers became just the third team to overcome an 0-2 deficit to win the conference finals.

Jordan, who won six NBA championships during his 13 seasons with the Chicago Bulls, said the next challenge for James is to achieve consistency.

"Making 'The Leap' is where you do it every single night," Jordan said. "It's expected of you, and you do it. ... Not one game, not two games. It's consistent. Every defense comes in and they focus on you and you still impact the game. I think he's shown signs of that."

James took a "big step" forward in the series against Detroit, but the NBA finals against the San Antonio Spurs will provide another huge test, Jordan said.

"This next series is going to say, 'How far do you want to take it?'" said Jordan, speaking from Elkhart Lake, Wis., where his motorcycle team was participating in a racing event.

James was thrilled to learn of Jordan's approval.

"It's great," the Cavaliers star said after practice on Monday. "Anytime you get praise from the guy who basically laid down all the stones for you to get here. I grew up idolizing his game and how he played the game of basketball. It was definitely great to hear."

Lebron James should use Michael Jordan as his motivation to become the best player in the history of the NBA, I know the Great one is very proud that Lebron James his making an improvement in his game and at a very young age of 22 that he is leading this franchise for the first time in the NBA Finals.

It must be one of the happiest day for Lebron James because Michael Jordan thinks that the NBA needs another Airness and Lebron James fit the description of being one of the bright spots in the NBA.

:) Go Lebron James conquered the hearts of NBA fans and bring the NBA into the nexts level.

Very nice...hopefully knowing that Jordan is watching will be enough to motivate LeBron to keep it up in the finals

?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????//

Next challenge? He only scored 14 points tonight,, he better live up to this challenge!
Ohio people want to believe this guy is like Jordan,, so far,, he has been a disappointment other than one game during the playoffs.

Spurs in 4 because James is out to lunch.... again.

Spurs make basketball slow and boring,, and james is a no show

You have no idea what your saying right now. You make no sense. So just leave and watch your raiders next season who might win 3 games.

Normally I will not respond to a childlike response,, but,, no idea what Im saying? did he have more points? was he a factor? no,,, and no.

Only reason the Cavs are in the playoffs is because the east coast teams are pathetic. I know that hurts, but its the truth,,, Raiders have sucked lately but this isnt a football forum.

If you want to dispute a post, have facts to back up your view. Its not how many posts you make,, its the quality of the posts. I suggest you read the stat page before spewing emotional rants that only show a childish illusion you have created in your own mind. Im done with you.
