Re: Kobe named to NBA All Defensive FIRST team
Before someone asks..
NBA All-Defensive Team
The NBA All-Defensive Team is the NBA's annual honor given to the best defensive players in the NBA during the regular season. The team was first selected following the 1968-69 season. The voting is done by the 30 NBA head coaches, the coaches are not allowed to vote for players on their own team. The team is comprised of two five man teams, a first and second team comprising 10 roster spots. Players receive 2 points for a first team vote and 1 point for a second team vote. The top 5 vote-getters make the first team with the next 5 making the second team. In the case of a tie at the 5th position of either team the roster is extended. If the first team consists of 6 players due to a tie the second team will consist if at least 5 players with the potential for more in the event of additional ties. This has occurred several times, most recently in 2005-06 when Kobe Bryant and Jason Kidd tied in votes leading there to be 6 players on the first team and 5 on the second for a total of 11. No respect is given to position; in 2005-06 the second team had three forwards, one center, and one guard.
