Default Calling in sick for a "rest day"?

In light of NBA players taking the day off work for physical "rest", what is the opinion of 9-5 professionals taking a sick day for mental "rest" and to just chill at home?

Specifically, I'm thinking of taking a rest day on Monday since I know that my weekend is going to be busy and I just wanna have fun and watch the playoffs all Sunday. I probably won't feel like going in to work on Monday.

If you know in advance you want it off, just use a personal/vacation (whatever they have where you work) day.

Except vacation days are legit and I'm always short on those. In addition, I'm a consultant at a client bank. I'd be telling the client that I'm sick, they don't get charged, but my consulting firm still has to pay me. Only my consulting firm loses, and they pimp me out for ridiculous cut percentages.

Tell your employer you are taking the day off because ypu have cancer. The following day, go to work as usual and tell them "SIKE!!!".

All I know is I'm entitled to it, they don't roll over to the next year, I get 5 full work days, yes I'll use it. People have used sick days for a hell of a lot worse.

This. They essentially give us 5 days a year of paid sick days. Why the hell wouldn't I use them?

    reliability is the word here.

I did not own a business, I worked for two insurance companies.
They relied on me to the point , that the money was less than my value.
But the job was viable to me.

I seldom was sick , used my Ph's and vacation days within the system , and built up an incredible amount of sick day leave of absences.

I would use 1-2 a year to make sure that the company and co - workers would not think my work load was always on autopilot.

You only get 5, I get 10. We used to have 10 sick days and 10 emergency days paid for before we got bought out by one of the biggest companies.

I went close to 10 years without taking a sick day. Then I realized that everyone else takes them, so why not?

Maybe you should vote for a pro labour candidate. Then you'll have more paid leave.

In a sense I guess. But for my company vacation days need authorization a month in advance and have block out days where you cannot take a vacation. Sick days can be used anytime including day of. It's like a Trump card or deuce in Big 2. The work ultimate get out of jail card. Plus they do not roll over.

But yes, a vacation day lol

Yeah I know. There's not really vacation/sick days in my line of work, but when I had them I would use them in similar fashion. Everyone else does. Just make up a medical appointment.
