This would've been career suicide in America if Shakira released this video back then

I used to like her Spanish music, then she became a fake blonde (for the US market) and she has sucked since

She was experimental, and dare I say a bit avant-garde when she was a Spanish only artist. To label her as a 'pop' artist is unfair, as she was more of an 'Alternative' artist than a traditional 'pop' artist.
She wrote, composed, and produced most of her music.
She blended multiple genres and was a great song writer.
Shit... English speaking artists used to copy her as well, most notably Alanis.
She's unrecognizable to me now, nowhere near to what she used to be.

Not an old song, and actually a collabo with the legendary Miguel Bose, but damn it's a great song.

LOL at the face palm. Like your ass wouldn't "sell out" to go from obscure artist in latin america not even making enough from music to feed yourself to global icon.
And anyway, her "selling out" didnt involve anything negative (like a conscious rapper turning into a gangsta rapper, leading to juveniles looking up to some ridiculous gangsta image that leads them no where in life...or some guy leaving his old business partners hanging as soon as some big corporation calls him up to offer him a job).
All that happened due to Shakira "selling out" is a bunch of casual music fans had more sh*t to dance to from 2000 to 2005
LOL.

Not really, she's a really good lyricist...in Spanish. Her songs sound corny in English because many of her lyrics lose their meaning in English.
Since I'm fluent in both English and Spanish, I can tell you that some English lyrics to Spanish also suffer the same fate. Something gets lost in the translation where the words just don't have the same feeling when they are translated, even if the translation is done correctly, kinda hard to explain why...

Nostalgic. The pop music that was happening around 2001-2004 or so... lyrics were always mediocre but they always had catchy beats or crazy videos (by early 2000s standards).
Now, you can laugh at a lot of the stuff going on around the early 2000s. All that fashion too. I remember when wearing Abercombie meant you were cool.
