Default Dante Exum will miss the entire 2017-18 season

RIP to his career. Dude can't catch a break

Quote:
Utah Jazz guard Dante Exum could miss the entire season with a separated left shoulder, league sources told ESPN on Saturday.

Exum, 22, suffered the injury on a drive to the basket in Friday's 112-102 preseason victory over Phoenix on Friday night.

After the game, Utah coach Quin Snyder said, "If you saw his shoulder, it didn't look good."

An MRI revealed a separated shoulder and ligament damage, and Jazz officials and doctors are conferring Saturday to discuss a plan of action on recovery and rehabilitation, league sources said.

It's Exum's second significant injury of his young NBA career. He missed his second pro season after tearing his ACL in the summer of 2015 playing for his national team in Australia. After working his way back into condition a season ago, Exum had a solid showing in the Western Conference playoffs and had been impressive for the Jazz in the summer and preseason.

For Utah, rookie guard Donovan Mitchell is expected to see an expanded role as the backup to starting point guard Ricky Rubio. Utah has a third point guard, Raul Neto, on its roster, too.

Exum, a native of Australia who was selected by Utah with the fifth overall pick in the 2014 draft, averaged 6.2 points and 2.0 rebounds last season.

6-12 weeks if he doesn't need surgery. 6 months if he has surgery.

Sad part is they will be better now without him in the rotation. Burks appeared out of the rotation despite looking like their 2nd best player. Neto is also better. Exum had looked improved but he was still missing lay-ups and just doesn't have a great feel for the game still. If he can hit the 3(which is still to be determined) and defend he will have a place in the league. He still can't run an offense

Sucks, thought he really had a chance to find his game this year with Rubio gone. Oh well...

I never thought he was that great. He certainly isn't good enough to wait on years while he heals.

Him being a huge bust set the Jazz back years. The Jazz are a team with probably the most competitive disadvantage in the whole League because of where the are located. Despite this, under the guidance of Sloan, they competed for the playoffs year after year for 20 or so years instead of shamelessly tanking for even one season unlike any other small or even mid market teams do. So for one year they do actually tank, they get a guy who was extremely hyped but ended up being a scrub half the time, and hurt the other half. Imagine if he lived up to even half the hype he had going into the draft. He'd be a very good starting point guard and that would mean the Jazz would have been in the playoffs 2 years ago and a nearly 60 win team this year assuming Exum stayed healthy all year and Hill played 2 guard or ran the second unit, and probably made the WCF. No way Hayward leaves this team with a healthy and producing Exum. Instead, Hayward left and they're stuck between a rock and hard place with the roster.

He is a pretty negative player in every way other than passing. He's a borderline NBA player who maaaybe has rotational player potential.

They made the playoffs year after year because they drafted Stockton and Malone in back to back years. That would have happened with any coach.

They'd still be tanking now if they hadn't gotten lucky with Gobert. Even after he led them to the 6th best record to end the 2015 season they didn't try to win games until last season because Hayward was leaving and they were still never all in. They could have went after Millsap or others this past summer, signed Hill and Hayward stays. Can't blame Dante sucking on them being cheap
