Oh, and Wilt never averaged 60% FG when he had a 30/5 season. He averaged 52% and 54%. So, a drop of 7% and 9%. He averaged over 60% thrice in his career. 2 of those came when he was taking like 7 shots a game.

fg% is a useless stat. its about points per shot or true shooting %
agree with bolded
but points per shot isnt a great metric either, because free throws.
consider this case:
player A
10/20 from the field for 20 points = 1 point per shot
player B
5/5 from the field, 10/40 from the line for 20 points = 4 points per shot
but player 1 used 20 posessions, while player b used 25 (assuming all his FT are from 2 shot fouls, no and1, tech, etc)
in the end, TS% is king, which is basically points/posessions.
HOWEVER,
ts% doesnt account for the posessions in which you ended with a turnover. so then we delve into deeper advanced stats and arrive at things like PER, BPM, VORP, WS48 which try to fully capture a player's performance through all the recorded stats.
but even that doesnt account for things like hustle, saving loose balls, hitting clutch go-ahead shots at the end of close games, etc
I hope that advanced metrics can continue to improve and capture more aspects of the game.
