Default Devin getting MVP consideration. VC too?

Now I know this isn't a true indication of how many MVP votes certain players will get, but still, Rob Peterson's regular piece on NBA.com "Race to the MVP" fairly accurately determines who the standout candidates are at a particular point in the season.

Here is his current top 10:
1. LeBron James
2. Kobe Bryant
3. Chris Paul
4. Dwight Howard
5. Dwyane Wade
6. Tim Duncan
7. Chauncey Billups
8. Devin Harris
9. Paul Pierce
10. Brandon Roy

Here is what Peterson had to say about Devin:
Quote:
I don't know how long Mr. Harris (I call him mister because we share the same hometown, Milwaukee) will be in the Race to the MVP rankings, but he's a lock to stay atop anyone's Most Improved rankings ... if anyone does something so silly...No one can stop him one-on-one, and that benefits his team. Not only are they are winning because of him, but they're also exceeding expectations. Reads like a valuable impact to me.

Vince didn't make Peterson's top 10, but he was considered:
Quote:
Vince Carter, New Jersey: Oh, um ... Hi. Yes, yes, I am surprised to see you. No, there is no problem, it's just that, well, it's been a while, Vince, and I didn't expect to see you in the Top 10 neighborhood again to be honest with you. I thought you had moved far away. And, yes, yes, it is good to see you. I mean, you definitely have the talent and ability to be here. I don't think anyone has ever denied it. I just thought ... well, lots of water under the bridge since you've made an impact. What? Oh, yeah, Devin's here. He's inside the Top 10. OK, I will tell him "Hi" for you. Maybe sometime soon, you can come on in and tell him yourself. It was good to see you too, Vince. Come around again, will you?

RIghtfully so,
The way he's going he should win the Most Improved award but there's still a long way to go.

Can you say unanimous vote. This is one thing the analysts got right, people believed he would be the MIP.

As for the MVP race, he can't win, but he can sure try. I'll take Top 10.

great to see harris getting instant props but also kind of annoying how carter is perennially seen as a joke candidate. he is far and away the nets smartest player and a big reason why having kidd and RJ created too much redundancy IMO.

Preach it sister!

Seriously, I couldn't agree more. While Devin plays the point guard spot, it's Vince who sets most of the plays and gets his team mates involved. It's great to see him look to get Yi and Brook involved early in games because he knows he and Devin can turn it on basically whenever they choose to and it's more important for the youngsters to find their rhythm. This is just one example of how influential Vince is as a leader, but there are countless others from the way he deals with the media, the fans, and obviously the way he leads by example on the court. He has absolutely no problem in dishing the ball off to Devin when he's hot, or taking the shots himself. I couldn't say the same about RJ last season.

Devin has truly had a phenomenal start to the season and deserves to be in MVP contention at this stage (as I said on episode #44 of my show) but I think his early season performances have glossed over Vince's. People are now saying this is Devin's team. Well no, it's not. He's playing the best basketball of anyone on the team, but Vince is still the big dog.
