architects employ you, come up with the designs, all you have to do is figure out how to make it work and stand up. You are our underlings, the civil engineers too good for their field become architects like calatrava

Actually it was the other way around, he studied engineering after having studied architecture.

Ok. So architects can't make shit without engineers making sure it works.

Engineers can't make sure anything works without architects making designs.

Where am I wrong about them working together?

CEO's cant make bank without their worker drones doing the dirty work. They work together but architects are clearly the high part of the totem pole
