Default What would have to happen for Portland to get the 2011 All-Star Game?

Portland is one of five NBA cities (along with OKC, Memphis, Toronto, and Sacramento) that have never hosted an All-Star game. I know they've said there isn't a big enough central hotel but surely they can work out an issue like that, can't they? Bring in a couple of cruise ship hotels or something. As a lifelong Portland resident I would love it if there was an All-Star game at the Rose Garden in 2011 or 2012.

In the past (1990s) it has been suggested that a dislike for Paul Allen by Commissioner Stern and his office developed. Apparently this relates to how Allen had a blatant disregard for the concept of the salary cap in his early years as owner of the Blazers. That, obviously, is not currently the case (although we shall see what happens with the need to sign Roy and Aldridge to new contracts before October). If that is the case, perhaps those feelings have changed and Portland may have a chance to host the ASG. I believe teams actually have to request to be the host. I am not aware that Allen has done that in recent years.

Personally, although it would be good for the metro area economy, I could care less if Portland hosts the ASG. It is basically an offensive extravaganza with the concept of defense lost on the participants.

David Stern said that the Portland area doesn't have the hotel accommodations necessary to host all that an all-star game brings into the city. I've heard him say this time after time over the last 10 or so years.

I have heard him mention this also. Personally, I think it is just an excuse. He doesn't want to bring the ASG here.

There isn't enough to do in Portland and everything is too small. The night clubs are all small with the exception to Barracuda's and Portland is basically a big city with a small city feel.

The only thing Portland has going for it is the most strip clubs in the nation.

REALLY??? I don't get to Portland very often (last time over a year ago for a Blazers game) - and strip clubs aren't usually on my "to-do" list, but I guess I just never noticed....Portland has a lot of strip clubs???

Yeah and there are reports or whatever that Portland has the most strip clubs per capita in the United States. Might be strip clubs and porn shops, idk

We also have the highest gay population per capita in the U.S. Not to be confused with SF's highest gay population, period.
