Stars start camp tomorrow.

Should be their 3 picks this year Oni, Brantley and Wright Forman.

Their affiliate guys Morgan, Scott, Haas and Collinsworth.

Their 4 draft picks Occeus, Castlin, Mitchell and Toolson

They also got Pryor in the trade for Collinsworth.

Usually there's a couple guys that return from the year before. Haas and?

Appears they need some more size up front and on the wings. A lot of guards. But they do play even smaller in the Gleague and the Jazz are playing with one big so the Stars may too

The Jazz are deeper than Pelton gives them credit for, but a major injury to Conley, Mitchell, or Gobert, would certainly put a damper on the season. Conley is probably most susceptible to the injury bug at the ripe age of 32 and having played no more than 70 games any of the last 5 seasons. If Conley missed 18 games I would have a hard time picking the Jazz to be anything more than a middle of the pack team in the West, so I agree with Pelton there. But is there any way the Jazz could lighten Conley’s load of an 82 game schedule, prevent injury and still be an elite team in the NBA?

They aren't deep but that appears to be a problem for most of the top teams.

Quote:
Bogdanovic has never played more than 31 mpg in a season and the Jazz would be smart to keep that trend up, using Ingles, O’Neale, Exum, and Oni to fill forward minutes. Bogdanovic has also only missed 5 games in the last 3 seasons.

Niang?

Quote:
I can already hear the groans from Jazz fans reading this, but this game is not important to the Jazz at all and is probably a loss any way you slice it. It would certainly feel good to beat Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid on their own floor, but the Jazz should look at the big picture. This game is the 5th in 7 nights, on a back to back and the last game of a 5 game road trip. Give Conley the night off and let Exum and Mudiay guard Philly’s bigger guards. Jazz could even consider giving Gobert the night off and starting Tony Bradley for some experience in a matchup that suits him.

every game is important. Who's on the other end of the back to back? If it's a crappy team I'd look to rest guys in that one

Quote:
This is a back to back for the Knicks and the final game of a West Coast four game road trip. Last year Dante Exum started this game on his way to 13 points and 13 assists and the Jazz led 71-34 at the half. Like last year, this would be an ideal time to get the starting point guard some rest.

Knicks should be better this year and Exum still sucks

Quote:
Back to Back for the Thunder, but not the Jazz. The Jazz have already shown they can beat the Thunder without Mike Conley making any baskets.

can they win without his D though?

Quote:
A back to back in Denver is almost an automatic “L.” It would be incredible to sweep the Nuggets this year, but the Jazz should just play for 3-1.

Who's on the other end of the back to back

In the first 3 games this season, Mitchell has played at an MVP level. He was the main reason the Jazz pulled out an opening night win against the Thunder and looked like the best player on the floor against the Lakers.

the main reason other than Rudy dominating on D and setting up the offense with his screens and pounding the boards?

Bojan Bogdanovic is going to win over Utah Jazz fans quickly

He must be a good guy! I'd think they would have been won over the moment he signed. Meant Favors was gone and he was the greatest free agent signing in their history by far

And his post-game comments in and of themselves were evidence of a big reason why Bogey is certain to win over Jazz fans quickly. His personality is naturally unassuming, but he possesses a sharp wit and a hilarious sense of humor, punctuated by his unabashed honesty in his responses. Not to mention, he’s absolutely passionate about the game of basketball and it’s evident in all he says and does. He’s a joy to watch on the court and an excellent teammate of high character in the locker room.

Who cares? He helps make them a great team. That's all that matters to me

https://saltlakecity.gleague.nba.com/roster/

17 guys. I think they have a 12 or 13 man roster during the season plus the 2 way guys I think so I'd guess their 4 draft picks, Benlevi and Hudson are fighting for the final slots. Benlevi is the one that sticks out on paper though it was at a small school. Filled the box score. Toolson is local and his dad played for the Jazz which could help his cause. Nelson-Ododa looks good on paper in the G-league last year though only 7 games. Blocks and boards. Fletcher had his moments with the Stars last year as a stretch 4 and was on their summer league team I believe. Pryor looks like a shooter with Gleague time last year.

Haas/Nelson-Ododa/Morgan
Brantley/Howard/Fletcher
Collinsworth/Blueitt/Benlevi
Oni/Pryor
Wright/Forman/Scott

Looks like a pretty good team maybe! I imagine Goss could be playing with them if Exum ever makes it back. Bradley could play here and there if both teams are in town and the Jazz have an off night just to get him some minutes and show his progress. Kidd could see some time at some point too but he's almost 30 so who knows. I guess they could all work out with them during camp as well. Exum might too who knows. Be nice to see him get some rehab time down there and prove himself before he plays for the Jazz actually

Snyder says Rubio makes teams better, which he did during his two years in Utah.

actually better with Hill and a lot of times Neto and even Exum but yeah

Quote:
“Ricky’s defense, Ricky’s leadership — we know the things Ricky does on the court. He makes people better,” Snyder said. “I’m always happy to see Ricky — unless he kicks our butt.”

Can't wait. He'll finally be helping Utah out!

http://saltcityhoops.com/do-the-jazz...power-forward/

Quote:
Bogdanovic and O’Neale are both wings players and the Jazz will ask them to shift down a position and guard some bigger power forwards. Having Bogdanovic try to defend Blake Griffin or Anthony Davis and keep them off the glass, won’t be a smart plan. This is why there are concerns about the Jazz.

matchups go both ways

Quote:
If the concerns Lowe brings up proves to be valid, the Jazz, “can dangle [Dante] Exum to trawl for an extra big man if need be.” The Jazz brass have been high and loyal to Exum since they drafted him, so the idea of the Jazz trading him seems a bit far-fetched. After looking at the Jazz’s roster there aren’t a lot of contracts that can help you get a good player in return. The Jazz have either very high salary players like Gobert, Conley and Bogdanovic or guys on rookie or minimum contracts.

Hopefully Mudiay and Oni finally make him expendable!

Quote:
The only average salaries on this team are Exum at $9.6 million a year and Joe Ingles at $12 million. The Jazz aren’t going to be moving Ingles, especially after the contract extension they just rewarded him with. Basically, Exum is Lindsey’s only main trade piece.

Only big contract anyway. They have flexibility with the roster and could package young guys and picks if for no other reason to open up roster space for buyouts where they should be one of the top destinations

Quote:
The season has just begun and expectations are that nothing will happensoon, the Jazz need to see how this team meshes and if the concerns with being smaller will really become an issue. If it does, how Lindsey and Zanik handle it should be interesting to see.

Need more depth. Not necessarily a 4 though

Ricky Rubio probably couldn’t have landed in a better spot.

yeah because he's a backup almost anywhere else

Quote:
When the Utah Jazz face off against the Phoenix Suns tonight, they’ll see a familiar face on the court: Ricky Rubio. Conley, Rubio’s replacement, will have his first chance to show what type of upgrade he was for Utah with the former Jazzman Rubio on the floor. Conley started the season sluggishly shooting less than 20% from the field, but bounced back against the Sacramento Kings. Rubio, who almost was traded away at the Trade Deadline to the Memphis Grizzlies last season, will have a chance to exact a special kind of revenge on Utah tonight with his new team.

If you refuse to trade Exum it's not an almost trade.

Quote:
10 ppg, 10 apg, 7rpg, 3.0 spg, 4.5 tov 26.3% FG%, 0% 3PT%

same old Ricky!

Quote:
Ricky Rubio basically gets to be Rubio. He isn’t a shooter. But he’s a premier playmaker. It’s almost like Ben Simmons—minus the height and finishing at the rim. He is in a system tailored for him. Shooters all around in which he can simply react and work in never-ending space.

and the defense

Quote:
This is where I must make a concession. Ricky Rubio is a really good point guard, but he requires an if, IF he is with the right personnel. He’s not a plug and play type player who can be fit with any team. In truth, very few players are. Most players have a unique set of skills and limitations that determine their floors and ceilings depending on playing style, pace, offensive system, position, and teammate composition. Rubio has the potential to have a great season with the Phoenix Suns because his team now has a starting lineup and bench built for his best skills.

how anyone ever thought he made sense here is still the question I have to ask?

The strength of the NBA continued at the top of Friday’s cable ratings. ESPN’s airing of the Utah Jazz playing the Los Angeles Lakers scored a 0.7 rating in adults 18-49, making it the top broadcast of the night. Its closest competition came from the second-place entry game between the Dallas Mavericks and the New Orleans Pelicans, though this came in at a mere 0.4 in comparison. – via Zap2It

One of every five Jazz shot attempts thus far (20.2%) has been a wide open 3-pointer, which is ninth in the league. In particular, Royce O’Neale (41.2% of his shots), Jeff Green (37.5%), Mike Conley (28.9%) and Bogdanovic (28.1%) are benefitting from being left wide open. Joe Ingles (26.7%) is getting left alone, too.

who saw that coming?

I've got league pass, so I can choose which feed I listen to, so usually stick with the Jazz on games that aren't nationally televised.

Bad shooting (Conley again can't get anything to go), bad turnovers, but still eeked out a win. Snyder looks like he might blow a gasket soon, but Bogdanovich is at least keeping the offense moving when Mitchell has a bad shooting night, which is something we didn't have before.
