He's a motivator that got the team of young guys on the same page, that's it. He's doing a really good job at the moment but I don't think he's an elite coach.

He's not much different from Doc Rivers.

All I can say is he's overachieved his expectations. But it's too early to tell at the moment, only his second year.

he sure did burn down the Spurs the other afternoon.

In reality, there's very few times in game situations where coaches can have direct impact. It is practice times where they are most effective and do the work. But game times, the schemes and the strategies are so well thought out and so planned after 50 years of games that most of the time it's almost a format that they follow.
Sunday afternoon was one of those impact times. Whatever he said, or..... whatever he didn't say, in that timeout about 2 minutes before OT......... worked.

It's his second year coaching Basketball at any level... obviously he isn't an elite coach.

How was Mark a mediocre player? Isn't he #2 all time in assists?

He wasn't mediocre, but also wasn't a superstar. He was a grinder of a pg who understood what all 5 positions had to do. That's part of the reason for his success as a coach.

Barring disastrous injuries those young guys you are talking about, are going to the hall. They are already playing at the top levels; where they are struggling is where all young guys struggle (and not just in hoops for that matter) and that is consistency.
