A reason to not sleep with a gun within reach...
Last night I went to bed at about 2am. My girlfriend had been in bed for a few hours. A moment later I saw a quick flash of light from outside my doorway. I sat up questioning if I had actually seen light. I stared at the open doorway for a moment and then I saw a person step into site. I yelled "Hey! Hey you!" about as loud and aggressively as I could and started thinking of what was within reach that I could use as a weapon. I heard my girlfriend scream and the person jumped in bed. It was actually my girlfriend. I was so tired and disoriented that even though she was in bed when I got there, she immediately got out of bed and I was falling asleep so fast I didn't notice. If I had a gun within reach, I probably would have shot her since I was convinced she was in bed next to me.
