I mean work experience and hundreds of volunteer hours is going to look better on a college application than basketball.

It all depends on your situation. If you are going to need the money from work to get through college, then that could easily become important. The types of colleges you look at are also important. Many colleges only care about what your grades are. Higher end colleges may look at resumes (not very common though) and may even interview. So then the job could become important. Even if you are looking at private colleges (as long as they are not the super high end ones that people would know from across the country), they won't care about your work experience. Even then, it sounds like you already have some under your belt, which potentially is good enough already.

Ultimately, you only have high school once. Unless you are super ambitious or will require experience or money right now for your success, I think it can be very good to enjoy high school while you can. You don't want to end up regretting either way. You don't want to regret not getting into a particular college, but you also don't want to regret passing up on a once in a lifetime experience if it wasn't fully necessary either.
