the executives in that room are business people. they dont give a shit about rap music except the reason that it has a market and can sell. not sure why it is necessary to perform like an idiot in front of these people like they give a **** about the culture, and like your bringing some kind of unique performance art. Reminds me of a discussion with my younger brother earlier this year. He has a real deep interest in hip-hop. He does not try to emulate any kind of life he does not lead, but we did discuss perception vs. reality.

Sometimes I think it's good to remember there's a big difference between who these performers present themselves to be vs. who we want them to be vs. who they are. I'm not sure how much it matters though. I suppose it's for the sake of reality and withholding misleading conclusions and generalizations about certain people, places, and things.
