He also averaged a career high 31ppg in 2006. So I guess he was a better scorer in his third year than any season since?

LeBron hasn’t been in his prime for the past 3-4 seasons. 2016 was his last prime season. 30 or 31 is typically the age you end your prime in terms of basketball.

So a past prime LeBron in 2018 had a better Finals run than any season of MJ?

His prime was 2008-16.. He's been a 1-way player ever since to maintain his numbers.

Lebron averaged 25+ ppg longer than any other player in NBA history, so you could make an argument that he had the longest prime as a scorer, though not the highest peak obviously.

If you consider playing bums, barely squeaking by against bums, stat padding, and not playing any defense en route to ANOTHER Finals sweep. Then sure.

Twiddle dee and dum define 'prime' by numbers and not the period when a players physical and mental abilities, with experience, are most in sync. So to them, Lebron putting up 27,7,7 in his second year and in year 16 is one and the same. Like Shaq putting up 29/13 in 94, and the same in 2000, and concluding he was the same player or that he was in his prime as early as his 2nd season.

Most of the truly great players in history started putting up numbers right away. From the outset its raw talent. Then at a point the game slows down and mastering the pace of the game kicks in. It's like MJ once said '32 a game is easy. It's just 8,8,8,8'. That's where Lebron is now. You won't see too many huge sustained outbursts, just little bursts where he can rack up stats quick....then take the foot off the pedal....then back on again....rinse repeat. It's '7/2/2 a quarter', and voila you got your 28/8/8. Lebron understands very well, to a science, the way to pace himself and maintain similar stats( on the surface) to what he was doing in his ACTUAL prime. He's not close to the guy, motor-wise, who was flying around the court on BOTH ends 5 years ago.

There's no question that he has always been the best player on his team, but how is something like 2004 considered part of his prime? If that's the case, all 15 years of Michael Jordan's career were his prime, but no one considers that to be his actual prime.

Hakeem Olajuwon's prime was like 17 seasons.

John Havlicek was winning rings yearly as soon as he joined the NBA, although he wasn't the best player when he joined.

'91 MJ was a better Finals run than anything LeBron has done.

That's a good point. LeBron doesn't exert as much energy on defense, where more of the effort and less of the skill is required, as some of the other players that would be in this discussion. Example: something like All-Defensive First Team nine years straight would be unheard of. So, it's easier to maintain a prime...
