Anyone pick this up yet? Forgive me if a topic has already been posted.
They've been my favorite band since I picked up their "Ten" album back in 92. I picked up their new one today, and I was pleasantly surprised. Pretty solid from top to bottom. I wasn't a huge fan of their self titled released about 3-4 years ago, so it was a bit refreshing to hear they still had some left in them.
Love PJ, they put on a wicked show too. Last show I went to was a few years ago, and when I got home, I went on their website and downloaded the entire concert I just attended in MP3 format and listened to it again... how wicked it that?
I listened to it last week, and I thought it was good but nothing stands out. Sounds just like the last album without a single.
That's kind of what I thought the first time I listened to it yesterday. Nothing really grabbed my attention, but I was also listening at work. I listened to it last night with no distractions, and again this morning on my long commute. A few songs jumped out at me. I had already heard The Fixer, and Got Some. Liked both songs, but I really like Supersonic, The End, Amongst the Waves, and Just Breathe. I'm happy with the purchase.
Now I think it's leaps and bounds better than the self titled release, which I wasn't a huge fan of. Didn't care much for the sound, or political undertone in about every song.
I listened to it 7-10 times the other night and it's just nondescript. Good, solid album, but at best it's their 4th greatest album. Maybe not even that. It's sad he's got no more hooks, because they're playing 90's rock. At least bands like Oasis and Radiohead have moved on so much that you can't even compare their new stuff to the 90's. Maybe I'd like that better so I can just glorify the past in my memories.
