Sports: David Beckham. Not the best by any stretch, but the most recognizable globally and the key here is face.

News: Osama Bin Laden

Politics: Bush, Obama, Cheney, Hu, Putin, Blair, Hussein, Kim Jong-Il, Achmejinidad. Depends on your viewpoint really.

Finance: Alan Greenspan

Business: Steve Jobs

Music: ?????

Death: Michael Jackson

TV: James Gandolfini

Movies: ?????

No Tiger Woods for sports?

Hugo Chavez deserves a mention if Ahmadinejad gets a mention. Hugo successfully nationalized Western mineral interests, and built up a huge sphere of influences in South America. We have yet to scratch the surface of the longterm effects of his rise to power in Venezuela.

There is a toss up when it comes to the face of drug use. Cocaine is still going strong, but ecstasy and meth staked their claim to being the top dog.

Hip hop though in decline in the States, is arguably the world's biggest current youth culture.

Chavez is a good choice.

first part of the decade was rave culture, but Hip Hop still ends up on top.

drug wise, coke, weed, ecstacy, and meth all had their go, but ketamine might be the one unique to the 00s

Tiger Woods is great, but only iconic in the US. Beckham, Shumacher, Federer and maybe even both Ronaldos, Ronaldhino and Zidane are bigger deals globally.

I think Hugo>Saddam in relevance. Saddam isn't really that important imo.

Tiger Woods is as well known or more well known globally than those people listed.
