Default Broadcaster Chuck Swirsky joins Bulls, comes from Raptors

Chuck Swirsky, an icon with the Toronto Raptors radio and television broadcasts as play-by-play announcer for the past 10 seasons, is leaving the organization for personal reasons related to his family. Swirsky and his family are returning to the Chicago area where he served as sports director at WGN Radio from 1982-94, broadcaster of DePaul University basketball for 10 years, host of the Chicago Bears Radio Network for 10 years and held similar responsibilities for the Chicago Cubs Radio Network for a dozen seasons. Swirsky will assume a position as radio play-by-play broadcaster with the Chicago Bulls.

Whoa... sorry about that. I meant to hit reply... how did that happen?

Anyways, I just asked if he was going to replace anyone or if he was joining as the third guy?

DAMM! Chicago gets D'antoni and now the Swirsk too.

Congratulations Chicago.

Not sure how much he has changed since he left Toronto, but he is pretty unanimously considered excellent in Toronto. Chuck Swirsky is a fantastic broadcaster, very fair, and a huge basketball fan. Great play calling. Lets the colour talk as well. A talker, but not afraid of some dea air to let the fans enjoy the action. A big on-air supporter of the home team, without crossing the line and being a cheap homer like some franchises have. Trade mark sayings ("salami & cheese" time when the game was over and it was time to go make a sandwich) which were endearing, and not over the top.

Had an intelligent and broad minded daily afternoon show on the local radio station too, which won him even more fans.

A huge loss for the Raps, and big win for the Bulls. The Bulls front office is gonna love him too if he does as much positive PR stuff and community work as he did for the Raps. After Bosh, the probably the most popular guy in Raptorland.

All the best Chuck.
