Default T-Wolves daily for Nov 22: facing Knicks tonight

Timberwolves Daily - Wednesday, November 22, 2006

Saturday Night's Recap
Minnesota 96, New Orleans/Oklahoma City 99
The Timberwolves returned home to Target Center to complete their third back-to-back set of the season. It was a back-and-forth contest that saw eight lead changes and seven ties, but the Hornets used late-game heroics to take the game from the Wolves 99-96. Minnesota was down three with about six seconds remaining when Mike James spotted up from long-distance and knocked down a three-pointer with about three seconds remaining to tie the score at 96. Peja Stojakovic responded with a three of his own and with less than a second remaining, Minnesota was unable to tie the score. Kevin Garnett had 22 points and 17 rebounds while Troy Hudson scored 20 points in 22 minutes off the bench.

Tonight's Game
Minnesota vs. New York Knicks
Target Center -- 7:00 p.m.
The Knicks and Timberwolves will meet for the first time tonight. Last season the Wolves swept the two games the teams played. They won 96-90 on Jan. 16 at New York and 98-94 on Mar. 26 at Target Center. Kevin Garnett starred in both meetings, posting 24 points, 16 rebounds and six assists in New York and 26 points and 15 rebounds in the Minnesota contest.

Minnesota is coming off a three-point, last second loss to New Orleans/Oklahoma City at Target Center on Saturday night. New York travels to the Twin Cities after a 97-90 loss to the Houston Rockets at Madison Square Garden on Monday night. Knicks guard Jamal Crawford led the team in scoring, with 25 points off the bench. Overall, New York is 4-8, but three of their four wins have come on the road as they're 3-3 outside of the Empire State.

Dunk Count
Although they count for two points just as a layup or jump shot would, dunks seem to fire up the crowd and provide more energy. This season, Wolves forward, Kevin Garnett, has jumped out to an early lead in the dunk count, with nine through nine games this season. Second on the list is rookie forward, Craig Smith with six. Ricky Davis is on Smith's heels with five and Mark Blount rounds out the top four with three dunks.

Home Court Help
Through the first nine games of the season, the Timberwolves seem to be getting a boost from the games played at Target Center. They're averaging 96.8 points per contest, shooting 45.6 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from three-point range. The team's season averages are 92.2 points each game, a 44.9 field goal percentage and 29.0 shooting percentage from three-point range. Entering the game against the Knicks, the Wolves have gone 2-2 at Target Center this season.

Wednesday's Broadcast
Catch Wednesday's 7:00 p.m. game against the Knicks on FSN North and the radio home of the Wolves, BOB 106 (106.1 FM).
