*Shakes his head sadly* Why are you people even bothering to do this? It’s not that I’m discrediting the idea of recognizing good posters on ISH, but let’s face facts here. 90% of the posters on this board are ****ing retards. So that means 90% of your voters are going to be ****ing retards, and 90% of the people they vote for are going to be ****ing retards. Every single time you try to have a serious vote, the retards are going to screw everything up. This isn’t even taking all of the additional usernames many of you have.
However, if you try and narrow down the results by cutting some (or all) of the retards out of the picture, you have a biased vote and you might as well just appoint people.
Now, I’m no seagull manager, so after swooping down and ****ting on your parade I’ll at least offer some ways to improve things:
Nominations: You people all know who the regulars and better posters are. Make a nomination thread and require people to nominate a user other than themselves or their various alternyms, post a detailed explanation of why, and maybe even quote an example thread in order to nominate. The retards would actually have to put some thought and effort into things, and while this won’t stop all of them, this will stop many.
Selection committee: Again, you people all know the regulars and better posters. Make a committee to select a group of people to vote for, and then allow votes that way. Your committee could automatically overrule any retards from being selected.
Voting process: You need a simple system that tracks IP numbers. One vote per IP. If people share an IP, that’s too bad, you get one vote. Yeah, there are ways around this, but again, it won’t stop all of them, but it will stop many. Remember, dumb people always give up at some point, your goal is to make stages of difficult to catch the various levels of stupidity as they get through. The easiest voting process would be to just make a thread, and have people vote with a post. Of course, you get to deal with all of the alternyms and bull**** that way, but there’s really no way around that.
Restrictions: You could places restrictions on who is allowed to vote in a thread. Post count is one way, although it’s not a very accurate way to determine things, but at least it will cut down on the newly created alternyms spamming threads with posts. Who knows, if this is something that Jeff supports, you could see if he’ll allow someone mod access, or create a temporary forum and give mod access there so that IP numbers could be tracked easier.
The concept of a “top ten” or “all star” list of posters is honestly a good one, but the retards who clog the internet with their ignorance will always complicate things. Since there’s nothing to gain from “winning”, there’s nothing to lose by cheating either. And especially at ISH, the odds are stacked against you. If you’re not a retard, you’re in a -very- small minority... not just here, but on the internet as a whole. Good luck.
