You don't realize that there is an upper limit to what the human body is even capable of. Unless you can genetically modify a human to have significant more fast twitch muscles, players aren't going to get *that* much more athletic.

If he plays 2 mins a game, he can play for another 25 years with effectiveness.
Hustle guys are important, what were you saying about Charles Oakley OP? Or were you not born yet?

I actually think the less athletic smart player will actually have a bigger roll moving forward as long as the league keeps the zone rules, and as teams continue to tweet with ways to exploit them.
Skill based things like shooting, passing, ball handling, and quick decision making will be more valuable on offense. And the gap of not being able to close the gap defensively has already seen itself limited because smart players are allowed to be in better position sooner now.
I do think you'll see more pure athletes on teams who choose to try to go after things defensively, by trying to close out all the across the court. But I'm guessing that will be rarer. And my guess is the Collison type will be more valuable than the raw er athlete like Java let McGee.
And obviously a combination will make up the best players. I'm talking bench fill out types.
I think the way to move it to more pure athletes without killing the zone is to widen the floor, which is something I've supported for a decade or so.

With the exception of Kaman, I would disagree. Most of those guys are in the right spot at the right time type of guys.
Kaman is sort of a traditional post specialist, which I agree is probably going to die, unless the guy is truly exceptional.
Pachulia is more of spot up 15 foot center, which will gave a place as a 9th man, which is pretty much what he is.
Sacre probably doesn't belong in the league as it is.

Re: The Nick Collison's of the world will be out of the NBA in 20 years
I think there's a reason why a team like the Spurs was so successful over the decade. They didn't place a premium on the athletic monsters like Josh Smith that can slam dunk from the 3 point like the OP is mentioned but they went after the players with skill, with high IQ, players that were versatile, that played defense and understand team ball. Have any of their players been those athletic freaks?
Teams need balance. If you have a legit scorers you'll need to balance the team out with players that can play defense, spread the floor, be the "glue guy", etc. We've seen how successful teams like the Kings are that have constantly added(that OP thinks will dominate)

In 20 years, shooting 40% from the field will be considered efficient.
