I guess it came down to the Simons' saying no to the deal. They did not like the length of Al's contract (I gather they wanted 4 years, not 5, so that Al's deal would expire at the same time as JO's, Jackson's, and Daniel's deals), or the fact that the Pacers would have to take on John Edwards' contract. This iis more than a little frustrating. If this was the case, then why didn't they crush this some time ago so that the front office could look elsewhere?
