The norms? Over 50% of married people admit to cheating. And any man...and I mean....ANY man..who could have supermodels without effort and says they wouldnt even consider it if married...is lying.

This isnt Shining Time Station. Its the real world. Tiger is pretty much what most men would be...if they could be it.

Tiger humiliated his wife on the world stage in the most brazen way possible. He pretty much proved to be morally bankrupt, at least as far as our society views 'morality.' What is hard to understand about that?

You may be the most cynical person I have ever encountered on the Internets.

Not necessarily a bad thing, but interesting nonetheless. But, to answer your question... No, I don't think that every man would behave the way Tiger did given the opportunity. Cheating on your wife is one thing. Having unprotected sex with a myraid of pornstars is quite another.

Who knows how many diseases his wife contracted as a result.

    Society norm?? Please..

She was a nude model, then married a pro athlete. She's not an idiot and knew exactly what she was getting into. She even walked away with hundreds of millions.. Poor her...

Anyone hating on tiger are generally fat ugly older women.

Tiger's what we'd all be if we lived in a fantasy world. I never said the people that hate him are right/wrong, or are/are not hypocrites, but to ignore the standard we hold athletes to is brushing aside a complex problem.

You think people that "hate" Lebron now, me included, wouldn't do the exact same thing he would? Of course. But these guys get put out there as these paragons of virtue with 24 hour sports networks and countless magazines disecting the decisions of 20 something millionaires and you act surprised there's a backlash. You're so caught up in this seemingly "they should be treated like normal people approach" when they never have been at any point in history. This is celebrity, stop acting so surprised by it.

The problem is complex and lays at the feet of all involved.

He humiliated his wife...by women selling stories of being with him and people getting his phone records and shit? The only difference between Tiger and Jordan(and...everyone) is the media choosing to make one a story.

And morally bankrupt? He proved to be a man. These guys walk out of hotels to find dozens of 10s in a lobby who found out they were there and are dying to ****.

Im a pretty high and mighty guy...but im not gonna go that far.

If you could **** 9 of 10 women you ever lay eyes on with a few words....

I...just dont see how it makes one totally without morals. Its a dick move to his wife. a lot of men are *****. As are a lot of women. Tiger got hated on over human nature by reporters who would be ****ing the same models if they could.

The effort made to single him out and make that non story into what it turned out is the biggest sports media joke of my life.

Look, I honestly don't mean this to sound as pompous as it does, but we've got clear differences on what it means to be a husband.

As IL explained above, these aren't 'normal' guys. Superstar athletes have a special place in our society. Tiger was paid an absurd amount of money and rewarded an absurd amount of fame for projecting the image of a man above reproach.

Sure, it helped that he could hit a little ball into a little hole, but sports celebrity and superstardom goes far beyond that. It may not be fair, but it is reality.

In a perfect world, maybe we would judge Tiger the same way that we judge Joe Smith down the street, but it is never as simple as that. He made the decision to put himself out there as a sports celebrity and the potential pitfalls of that position if it not handled correctly are absolutely clear (as I'm sure they were to Tiger).

I have absolutely no sympathy for him... Not because I think he is a terrible human being for banging a bunch of wh0res, but because he knew the price if that information ever became public and he was far too brazen about it.

First of all...we dont hold them to different standards on this one. The media decided to hold TIGER to a different one. You and I both know half the people writing stories hating know of a dozen more athletes doing the same thing...without coverage. Plenty of them huge stars. Muhammad Ali, Jordan, Ruth, and so on...shit several presidents. Men..in power...**** women. If it were really that much of an outrage just because it happens...it would be the only story ever on espn. But it isnt. It was one guy...who got singled out and blown up as if he were the exception...when hes the rule.

You think people that "hate" Lebron now, me included, wouldn't do the exact same thing he would? Of course. But these guys get put out there as these paragons of virtue with 24 hour sports networks and countless magazines disecting the decisions of 20 something millionaires and you act surprised there's a backlash. I am not at all surprised. Im disgusted. But not surprised. People are petty, selfish, idiots wrapped up in hero worship because some guys can throw a ball, or dribble, or hit one, or act, or dance, or sing. I am not one of them. I so often end up on the "Why is this a story?" side of celeb antics because I dont hold another man to a higher standard than I hold myself because of his skills at a sport. If im not above selfishness why should Lebron be? What...hes a better person...because hes tall and more athletic?

I dont get upset at athletes easily because usually...ive done worse. How do I look acting like a guy is sooooooooooo terrible for such petty acts as...not calling a boss who didnt even like him....when ive lived a normal life...meaning I have done worse. As have we all.

Why should I assume Lebron is a standup guy?

Im not. I try...but I make mistakes. Bigger ones than....not talking to Dan Gilbert because I didnt care what he had to say.

Shit is so petty. Such a weak reason to hate to me.

Lebron hate is totally understood by most. And he just...disrespected a douchebag and moved to get a better job? I hate Karl Malone for playing dirty and molesting a little girl...and people act shocked. Call me a hater.

People are more outraged over Lebron than they are that saaaay..Kidd beat his wife...or..that Jordan knows his shoes are made in sweatshops promised to end it...and then didnt.

    Its like...where are the priorities?

THIS is what we can muster up outrage over? This is what we as sports fans make a big deal out of?

    Men being...inconsiderate in business?

Just dont get it. If these men arent better than you...why hold them to a higher standard than you hold yourself?

Does sports talent really make someone your moral superior?

I would release the hounds on you...and the bees...and the hounds with bees in their mouths to do whats best for me and my family.

Id expect any other man to do the same. So I dont act shocked when one isnt nice about business. I suspect Dan Gilbert cut a few throats to get where he is. Nobody gets a billion dollars playing nice.

You have to go hard to go home in the real world. So I dont judge people by fantasy rules. Not because they have a nice jumper.

How so? How exactly did he project the image of being morally(since thats the issue) above reproach? By...getting married? By taking a picture with his wife at some point?

This is the kinda thing im talking about. Merely being famous...and selling gilette, and buicks, and gatorade...doesnt mean you are telling the world you are a priest. It means you are famous and thus...can push crap on people.

Tiger didnt do anymore to project moral perfection than any other man who is married and gets asked about it at some point in public.

It is much more simplistic than that... By putting his family out there, in the public eye, presenting the image of a loving husband and father (which he did during and after big tournaments with his wife on-hand), he was cultivating that image. In reality, he was banging everything that moved.

You seem to want it both ways... You want all athletes to be treated just like every other human being, but how many married men do you know that spend their days setting up meets with pornstars via text messages and flying around the country to get their *****' wet? Personally, I don't know one.

Tiger is a public figure and, thus, it shouldn't have been any surprise that his exploits were also very public.

So...being seen with your wife means you are telling the world you are above reproach. And people are stupid enough to assume that...your wife being in public with you....means that even though you are a billionaire superstar...you dont cheat? Ever.

Wife being seen in public means...her husband is saying hes above reproach. Understood. After all these years ISH still has things to teach me. A photo op or merely allowing your wife to appear in public is a declaration of flawlessness....

    I'll file that one away.

    Goodnight all.

No one said it is fair, but I'm certainly not going to feel sorry for a guy that understood the nature of celebrity and what he stood to lose if his secrets were revealed. It was flat-out stupidity on his part.

Seriously? Sexting with pornstars? When you are arguably the most recognizable athlete on the planet with a wife and kids?

Not smart and he should have known better. I don't really care about what he chose to do with his life, but it was a completely expected public response.

Its just the way some people think mate, they dont realise that the world isnt a perfect place...

Notice how Kobe goes and kisses his wife and daughters after games and they always make a point to televise it?? That shit is major damage control by his minders and the league to portray him as a loving guy etc..

He's not, but if portrayed that way he is a "role model".. The worst phrase used to describe a sports star. Kids should only be looking up to them for there sports achievements, nothing more. That is just bad parenting, plain and simple...

In Lebrons case, I understand for those true cavs fan it would suck, but honestly most ppl werent cavs fans before he got there, as obviously now the heat have millions of new fans Also, lets see how many season tickets they sell for next season...
