Biggest pro is that it would be something new instead of a "sequel".

I agree that we would lose the competition between ourselves but this is what has also happened in many recent drafts (writers, cinema, art, sneakers?)

Also, I don't think that removing the geographical aspect is a relevant setback, though it did add a nice tweak in the original draft.
