Default Common Misconceptions

ill start with people who cant watch raps games and judge our players by their statistics.

That TJ Ford is a very poor defensive player. I see this mentioned here and there and it's simply not true.

He's average to above average and sometimes quite good when he's not gambling with the reach ins. Just because he happened to go up against one of the VERY few point guards with a post-up game in the 1st round, people think he's terrible. The only point guards in the league that I've seen utilize this vs Ford are Kidd, Billups and Andre Miller. That's 3 starting PG's out of 26 other teams. Size is a good thing to have but lateral quicks and containment skills are more important when it comes to defending point guards.

I am not sure if this relates to your question, but when people use the same old argument as to why the Raptors suck.

"What team did Kobe drop 81 on? ROFL"

That just bugs the **** out of me. But then again, I shouldn't really expect much more from people on here.

Another thing is TJ Ford being a horrible defender.

EDIT: I just noticed Qwijibo said the exact same thing. I have the same views on this so just read his post and my opinion is the same.

Both are about TJ Ford.

One is that he can't defend and that he can't shoot. He improved his shot by leaps and bounds last season.

Nice to hear that TJs jump shot and defense are coming along. Both were weak with the Bucks, and I haven't seen him many times since he was traded.

Crap that Bosh was just putting up stats on a losing team and wasn't for real.

Yeah he has definetly improved in those areas.

From within 20 feet his shot has gotten pretty consistent. He will make teams pay for leaving him open and daring him to shoot. He still needs work on it but he has defeintly improved.

On defense he is really starting to use his quickness to frusturate the player he is guarding. He beats them to the spot that they want to go and uses his quick hands to pester the ball carrier. Like Qwijibo said, the only problem is his height. He gets hurt by bigger guards. His defense has improved significantly though.

Bargnani
Seems that most fans out there in Bushland (of which 99% did not see a Raptor game last year) just can't it it through their head that he is legitimately:
- very good
- 7+ feet tall
- 260lbs+
- Was the most franchise-valuable rookie talent in the NBA last year

Brandon Roy disagrees with you, was the heart of a turn around Portland squad last year and was by far the best rookie all season. Bargnani is a great talent but Roy was awesome last year.

I hear it alot on US game broadcasts that the fans in Canada are uneducated about basketball.

That CB4 doesnt belong in the elite in the NBA.

1) That taxes in Canada are so so much higher than the USA that players wont come here.

True if speaking about Florida. False if speaking about New York or Michigan where taxes are at least "comparable" if not exactly even. Factor in not paying CAD tax on games outside of Canada and practice time preseason in Buffalo, etc... taxes should not be a dis-incentive to come to Raptor land. Guys on ESPN, Fox, CBS, NBC, etc should at least study and be a little knowledgable aout this crap.

2) Toronto is a "Leaf town" and Raptors toil in obscurity.

Only partly true and partly false. The Baseball, CFL Football, and Soccer guys could argue the same thing.

Truth is Toronto is above league average in paid attendance and actual "buts in the seats counting". Not the top mind you - but above league average.

Boys in the media should get this basic crap correct.

True-ish.

Attendance:
13th overall by total, 13th by avg per home game, but only 16th at 92% tickets sold and #22/23 as a visiting team draw. These figures will rise a bit this year.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/attendance

Forbes '07 revenue ranking =17th.

1 Knicks $185 million
2 Lakers $167
3 Bulls $149
17 Raptors $105
28 Hornets $83
29 Sonics $81
30 Blazers $71

Raps are the biggest city in North America to have this "low" attendance and revenues, so they do punch a bit below their weight.

That some Pacer fans still think Jermaine O'Neal is better than Bosh.
