Its more pleasant in smaller groups. The strongest logical impetus for unity is defense, and the states do federalize that. But most other aspects, they should not. Obviously some broad regulations of interstate commerce etc will need to be agreed upon. Certainly no bloke would advocate eliminating federal government altogether. But using it as a replacement for individual will and initiative sounds great to the short sighted mind, but always ends poorly historically, unless you have small communities that have similar values, principles, ambitions. A huge melting pot liike America is about the worst place for socialism to be attempted.
No, it's the worst place for any system to be attempted actually. lol

States having more autonomy I can agree with for the most part. Neither Dems or Republicans will deliver that in a meaningful way, however. Also, I say for the most part because how much power do you give the states and where? Economic concerns?, Social? Many concerns are interconnected. What if a state's economic plan doesn't meet the social standards of the federal gov't? I think we can agree that social standards, when we talk about the most basic and important issues, will always be set or guided by the federal gov't. What if a state's economic policies hinder federal trade agreements? Well they won't, because the feds will say "**** you". Basically, even more autonomous states will never have the same potential as small nations.

BTW, Britain has a much larger population than Texas. lol

Indeed mate, a balance needs to be struck. But the Democrats in America have just gone off the rails with their collectivist idealism. And the whole thing is based off their insistence that some people should be continuously required to help other people who continuously need help and dont help themselves. In small little countries like Canada and Switzerland, most people are. Aluable to society, so people at the top are more willing to help out, because theres less help needed and they all have more in common. If you want to really be honest, mate, black culture is one of the biggest reasons people in America dont wanna help. Not black skin, black culture. Check all the stats and figures mate, as a community nobody in the developed world touches them as a counterproductive and ludicrous group. They basically turn pockets of America into little pockets of Africa. Domestic violence, illiteracy, crime, teen pregnancy, poverty. Successful people in America are less inclined to help violent criminals who speak ebonics than a bloke in Denmark will be to help a fellow Dane a town away. Thts just the truth. Democrats want to blame the system, the wealthy, the Republican party and so forth, basically everyone but black people, or immigrants, or anyone responsible for their own circumstances. Theyre too soft in the pants mate. They can neither stand up nor put a foot down. It aint in their DNA.

[QUOTE=kentatm]Sorry but I can't agree with that at all.

When you give the kill order for something that will absolutely become a major international incident if it fails, you get the credit for the results, good or bad.

Bush can't really get any of that glory b/c he foolishly neutered himself on the subject a mere 6 months after 9/11.
