Default America's Hidden Role in Hamas's Rise to Power

Quote:
The United States bears much of the blame for the ongoing bloodshed in the Gaza Strip and nearby parts of Israel. Indeed, were it not for misguided Israeli and American policies, Hamas would not be in control of the territory in the first place.

Israel initially encouraged the rise of the Palestinian Islamist movement as a counter to the Palestine Liberation Organization, the secular coalition composed of Fatah and various leftist and other nationalist movements. Beginning in the early 1980s, with generous funding from the U.S.-backed family dictatorship in Saudi Arabia, the antecedents of Hamas began to emerge through the establishment of schools, health care clinics, social service organizations and other entities that stressed an ultraconservative interpretation of Islam, which up to that point had not been very common among the Palestinian population. The hope was that if people spent more time praying in mosques, they would be less prone to enlist in left-wing nationalist movements challenging the Israeli occupation.

its a very interesting read. this is not unlike how the US funded and trained Osama back in the day b/c they viewed him as a cheap and easy way to battle the Soviets. Once again our meddling in world affairs is coming back to bite us in the ass.

how dare you make a thread on here that shows Israel is not a saint and guilt free!!!! You should know by now that every thread that even hints at Israel's guilt is censored on this site. Its like how our national media censors anything negative about Israel...

no average civilian like you or i knows exactly whats going on or who did what to whom. yet every liberal is pushing and shoving to get to the front of the "contrary to u.s. policy" movement. if the government and/or conservatives support israel, every liberals automatically blames them. if george bush said a triangle had 3 sides, (not that he would know geometry that complex) you'd have every liberal crying about how it has 15 sides and it hurts their feelings when he makes hateful statements like that. would the liberals be factually incorrect, sure, but would they care, hell no. they dont need to actually know what they're talking about, as long as they take the opposite position to george bush/the government/conservatives/the establishment/'the man.'

honestly, bada bing, you wanna sit here and describe exactly what the situation is in gaza? do you have any idea what it is? of course not. you are just on the liberal bandwagon, claiming that whatever conservatives claim is up, must be down, and anything they claim is right must be wrong.

didn't read the entire article but this stuck out to me:

sounds more like it wasn't directly the U.S.'s choice but some Saudi family that we help out for whatever reason...

I hate this kinda crap...there is just no possible way for anyone to really know the truth behind what is going on...

funding here and there mixed in with a bunch of cover-ups and what not and you have a complete mess of blame pointed in every direction...

you dont have to be pro anything to know how bias the US media is against Israel and how it covers up the reality of what is actually happening in the world.

There is no jumping on the bandwagon. People turned on the conservatives/Republicans in the US because of their actions in the past 8 years. Its not just because I prefer a liberal government. In fact, I dont prefer a liberal government. There are many things that would make me vote for the republicans but there are many things that would make me not vote for them also. You just cant vote or hate someone because of who they are...but you hate them because of what they have done.

Its a nice cover up by republicans and conservatives that people hate them just because. Its the exact same problem with the Zionists and their supporters. Every ****ing thing is antisemitism and people just hate them because of who they are. You have done exactly what has been going on in this country for a while now. Just give a simple explanation and forget about the bigger tragedy that we are letting happen. We have made flawed explanations and are satisfied with the bs. Sick and tired of conservatives undermining the hate people have generated towards governments that are probably more terrorists than the terrorists they are targeting.

Bottom line, hamas are extremist lunatics hellbent on destroying Israel, a palestinian majority supports them, and they care more about attacking israel than actually helping their own side, and now gaza is getting smacked around as a result. Declare permanent peace with israel, and no one gets smacked around and both sides are better off for it.

The truth is, crazy extremists control the palestinians, extremists who care more about removing israel from the map than peace alongside israel, and as long as that's the case, no permanent peace is likely. When the palestinian side truly wants peace next to israel, instead of a peace that includes wiping israel out, both sides can move on with their lives.

As for deleting topics, I am generally not a fan of ANY hot-button political issues here.

Our main goal here is to have fun discussions, about other sports, entertainment, and enjoying life, not touchy political issues, religion-bashing, war and anger.

if you are not a fan, then dont post in them and just stay the **** out instead of ruining good threads. Everyone that posts in the threads about political issues does have decent discussions until you come in there and put your bull**** in them. You are left with no choice but to delete them because of your own comments. Something similar to what has occurred in this thread. I made a reply to starface but you decided to act like a retarded monkey with down syndrome and look where this thread is going now.

Anyway, the Palestinian support for extremists who care more about destroying Israel than peace alongside Israel will accomplish nothing but keep things lousy for both sides.
