I doubt it. Both Bowie or Oden (and Brandon Roy to a smaller extent) had histories of serious injuries before coming into the NBA.

Portland wasn't victimized by freak accidents/injuries, they were picked based on the Blazers gambling that the player would be able to stay healthy, and losing.

Yes, but who were the best players in that draft after Kevin Durant? Al Horford and Joakim Noah? If Portland drafted Durant, OKC busting on picking Oden wouldn't have been that big of a deal since they would've just passed up on Al Horford, an all-star but not an elite MVP type player like Durant.

At 19 Bynum and Howard weren't beasts offensively either. Oden wasn't quite the athlete that Howard was or have quite the amount of polish on his post game as Bynum, but he was more well rounded offensively then either. Given health and time to improve his skills, I had no problem seeing him scoring at least 17 points a game.

Too bad we'll never know though.

His footwork was quite impressive though. There was so much potential there.

Obviously, he fouled too much but that was more the result of him not recognizing his own strength than anything else. Actually, in a preseason game, I recall him going up for a dunk but ending up knocking three Kings players to the floor and getting whistled for an offensive foul instead. That's the sort of fouls he would get into.

And the guy commanded double-triple teams for having done sh*t in the NBA. He had that large of a presence on the court.

He was starting to look more polished his second year when he was averaging 15/9 for a stretch. But then, the inevitable happened.

Well, as I pointed out, he had very solid footwork. This allowed him to play a legit post game that never got utilized due to either injuries, foul trouble, or having to share the offensive load with Aldridge and Roy.

He had enough strength to dunk with authority. Like Dwight Howard, he had strong handles for a center:

He had a high level of talent and skills. Now, could he actually coordinate these skills together? Maybe.

He came into the league at about the same time as Dwight and Bynum, and as such he was compared to them a lot when he was a prospect. The vast majority agreed that he was 2nd in both athleticism (behind Dwight) and post moves (after Bynum), as well as being viewed as the one with the greatest defensive potential.

Sounds pretty "well rounded" to me.
