i was never in track but that is the best technique *had to run it in football and bball* and i would always be the fastest in my group because everyone would pace. but the 400 is the longest race that you should sprint. i am always dead when i run it too lol. my fastest btw was like 56 for 6'8, so i think its a good time.

These are quite respectable times. Better than average! You have a good foundation for the 400 but stamina is key running the 400... Its a longer 200 so those sprinters with stamina and people with a great kick usually do well.
The best advice given stay with the leader dont punch it right after the last turn. Time it where the last 100 you can go full blast! Dont pass on turns.

I lose 2 seconds, but there is still 200m to go no matter what. If I run it all 100%, i'm moving as fast as possible, for the entire 400m. Its all about moving from point A to point B as fast as you can, it doesn't help to divide speed up, unless you can't sprint 100%.

Which is exactly why I wouldn't sprint 100% for a 400m, it'll turn out worse than dividing up the pace. If I sprint, by the third 100m, I would be down to 60% or even 50%, because the two primary energy sources in your body are naturally exhausted by then. That's why it's physically impossible to go all out for that long. There has to be at least the slightest decrease in effort to maximize the length in which you can sustain that speed.
