You’ll notice the Bobcats haven’t signed anyone lately. Based on a couple of recent emails, that concerns some of you.

Don’t confuse deliberate for disinterested.

Bobcats management is looking to be a smart shopper. NBA free-agency is a buyer’s market right now and training camp is more than a month away. Why panic?

There aren’t many spots available on NBA rosters. So most of those who don’t already have contracts will end up signing for the league minimum. That’s what the Bobcats are offering, based on everything I’m hearing.

Are there holes in the roster? Certainly. They obviously need a backup point guard and the depth inside is iffy. Big men Sean May and Othella Harrington were hurt much of last season, so their durability entering training camp has to be in question.

Beyond those holes, they generally need experience. Whatever limitations Brevin Knight and Jake Voskuhl had, they were veterans who knew what they were doing. They’ll be missed.

In a perfect world, the Bobcats would re-sign Jeff McInnis and Derek Anderson and add veteran big man Adonal Foyle, recently bought out by the Golden State Warriors. Foyle isn’t much offensively, but his shot-blocking would be handy when Emeka Okafor needs a rest.

Bobcats general manager Rod Higgins knows Foyle from his days in the Warriors’ front office. A classy guy, Foyle would be a comfortable fit here.

But none of those players figures to get more than the veteran minimum from another team. So the deliberate approach is the wise approach for the Bobcats as August becomes September.

Yeh, this article is really old but I thought it might interest some of you.
