Daily fantasy banned in Nevada for being unlicensed gambling
Nevada, the state most known for gambling, ruled Thursday that daily fantasy sports is a form of gambling and will require a license to operate in the state.
A.G. Burnett, chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, said all unlicensed daily fantasy activities must cease and desist as of Thursday. Operators could be invited to apply for a gaming license. Those who do not comply could face felony fines and 10 years in prison.

Out of curiosity, can someone tell me why gambling is illegal in some states in the first place?
Also, I don't see how you can restrict the internet, because I gamble on sports all the time when its not legal.
Sounds like Nevada just wants to keep the gambling to themselves. People are signing up to play DFS, nobody is forcing them to. Even after the 'scandal' broke, a week later, they had more players than ever.
And as one person pointed out in the comments section... how is this any different than gambling on the stock market?
Once again, we are being saved us from ourselves! Hooray!

Yeah, Nevada probably just wants their cut and DraftKings/FanDuel wasn't giving it to them. No clue what their revenue breakdown looks like but they have to get a crazy amount of state tax revenue from Vegas casinos.
And they are restricting the internet simply because it's easier to restrict. Maybe states would love to shutdown all of the illegal bookies but it's just too damn hard. With the internet, people have their bank accounts and personal information all stored in one place playing with one organization so it's easy to monitor.

you can thank this guy
Sheldon Adelson, the nation’s 11th richest person and chief executive of casino company Las Vegas Sands LVS +0.00%, says he is determined to stop online gambling in America and he will go to great lengths to battle the corporate interests pushing for it. “I am willing to spend whatever it takes,” Adelson said in his first interview since The Washington Post revealed that he had hired an army of lawyers and lobbyists to try to convince Congress to ban online gambling. “My moral standard compels me to speak out on this issue because I am the largest company by far in the industry and I am willing to speak out. I don’t see any compelling reason for the government to allow people to gamble on the Internet and nobody has ever explained except for the two companies whose special interest is going to be served if there is gaming on the Internet, Caesars and MGM.”

I am cheering for online gambling. I want it to take down Adelson & his shitty casinos.

Yeah, it's pretty incomprehensible to me too. Pisses me off that I can't lay a bet down at the casino and watch a game instead of playing a table game when I got with friends.
I think slot machines where senior citizens will literally sit there for hours and lose it all are way worse.

Well gambling is legal in Nevada, which is why daily fantasy is illegal there. They aren't able to profit off the online gambling.

They don't want it to get too big, people will just avoid their casinos/state totally.

Because the general public doesn't have the same information as people making thousands of bets a day, and millions of dollars.
So it's the exact same.
Edit: Do you think all drugs should be legal too?
