Duncan...last year solidified it for a while at least.

Depends on what Kobe does from here on out. If Duncan has another good year or two left...I doubt that Kobe can catch him

Sorry. Thought it was overall.

Last year? Easily Duncan. Injuries count against you on here...especially with Kobe stans they do.

Duncan was 28.2 seconds away from a finals MVP, so it's clear who had the better year.

I think its a joke to put duncan in the same breath as kobe

While duncan does have similar accomplishments in terms of accolades. What he lacks greatly in however is statistics/records/ impact on history/ pressure from the media and fans... Duncan flew under the radar in terms of expectations and media criticism which does help a player perform with less stress and backlash. Also kobe is the one player everyone circles on their schedule as a game they wanna prove something to everyone or theyre twlling their family to watch so they try extra hard.

Then factor in that kobe in individualmatchups has owned duncan more often than not and posterized him probably 30 times

But in the end. It really comes down to level of play. Kobes prime hasnt dropped much at all since 2001... While duncans has been like a roller coaster.

And if you really wanna say duncans better now because the spurs made th finals last year. I think anyone with a brain could see that tony parker was the leader of that team. He finished higher in mvp voting than duncan. Parkers been the spurs best player since 2007

Now ask yourself this. If kobe and parker were on the same team. Would kobe be the 2nd best player for half a decade?!

Common

Kobe was top 5 last year. He amazingly got better from the previous year.

Duncan was good, but that was Parker's team last year with help from Manu Ginobli...and a surprising year from both Danny Green and Kawi Loenard.

If kobe were on a team with a superior player in the last decade, he would not have allowed himself to be second best

Lol at thinking 12-13 Duncan was anywhere near 12-13 Kobe.
Kobe averaged 27.3 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 6.0 apg, on 57.0 TS%, had a stretch of 10 straight games of 30+, back to back 40/12 games, 8 40+pt games, 11 10+ assist games, and not to mention some clutch moments like 3 straight 3s vs Toronto, or the 4th quarter at Dallas.

Duncan never came close offensively to 12-13 Kobe in his entire career, let alone the 12-13 version of Duncan

Yeah Duncan was better defensively than Kobe, but so was Marc Gasol. Who cares when the offensive gap isn't even close Joke thread.

It's like n!ggas ain't even watch last season. Kobe obviously had the better year all the way up untill he got hurt.

Shit, Tony Parker was being talked about amongst MVP ranking last season. How the hell was Duncan better than Kobe when he wasn't even considered better than Parker?

See...you can't have it both ways. Either injuries don't impact this stuff...or they do.

If they do...then all those Wade vs Kobe comparisons in 07 and 08 take on a different context.

Being a Kobe stan is like a full time job. It's impossible to stay remotely consistent.

Well theres only one player in the league who would have a right to even possibly take over as the lakers leader and best player if kobe had to play with him and thats lebron james

Durants better skilled in his absolute prime but not as good a leader as kobe and cant carry the play making role as well

Duncan on the other hand would play second fiddle to 15 guys in the league since 2008

I wonder if you Kobe fans were going crazy watching the Finals. Your choice: Duncan with 5 rings, 4 FMVPs, 2 MVPs or Lebron with 2 rings, 2 FMVPs, 4 MVPs and closing fast on Kobe.

From NBA.com, Player Impact Estimate (PIE):

Duncan 17.8%
Kobe 15.6%

For comparison's sake:

Lebron 22.1%
Durant 20.2%
Chris Paul 17.8%

And for those of you who still think Parker is the most important player on the Spurs (including defense):
Tony Parker 16.1% (but still higher than Kobe)

Green and parker were the spurs mvps for 6 out of 7 games. Duncan just happened to have his absolute best game in the possible titlw clincher game 6..

Parkers been their best player for years now...

Like i said. If kobe was 2nd best player behind a tony parker for half a decade we wouldnt even be having this discussion

It never fails. A thread like this pops up and a host of Kobe stans immediately pop in and laugh at the notion of whoever is being compared to Kobe being considered better by others, even if there's a good argument for that player.
